Little Hole-in-the-wall does good!

A tip from a good Japanese friend led me to this place for lunch today. I didn't ffel like sushi but they had lots of noodle dishes on the website menu so I tried the cold udon with Kimchi, Natto and Daikon Oroshi ($6.50). First time I've ever had cold udon; it was so tasty and a real nice change from the usual hot soup. Perfect for a summer day. I was checking out other people's orders and they all looked good. They also have lots of side dishes for cheap. Only gripe is there's limited seating - only tables for two people. the whole place is only about 8' wide so can't do much about that. I guess you could stand outside and eat on the sidewalk. Anyways, I'll be back but I wish these guys would open up a location near Broadway & Cambie because there are no good Japanese places there!!

Great Take-Out Sushi
By Monty of Vancouver (6 Reviews)

I recently found this place for sushi and have been impressed so far. It's just a hole-in-the-wall kind of place, a bit run-down looking inside. But, they produce high-quality sushi at very good prices.

The sushi is fresh, well prepared, and delicious. Nigiri sushi is made properly with a dot of wasabi under each generous slice of fish. The sushi rice is perfect: light and sticky with some toothsome texture to it. Rolls are a good size and perfectly made. Their Sushi Don bowls are a great value that also look delicious with artfully arranged ingredients.

While they do have a few tables and stools under a window counter where people can quickly eat their food, it's not great ambiance, so, you may prefer to order take-out. For a take-out place, the service is friendly and attentive.

While there's a sushi place a block from where I live, I prefer to walk 7 blocks out of my way to this place instead. Because it's that much better for the same amount of money!

Consistent High Qualiy

Don't be put off by the relatively modest exterior on the north side of the West-Pender pizza/sushi strip. This is one of our favourite lunch-time Japanese restaurants in downtown Vancouver, with fresh, high-quality, professionally prepared, excellent value sushi, udon noodle bowls and bento boxes. The Japanese owner clearly knows his stuff, and runs a clean, tight ship with evident pride. The menu varies with the seasons, with fresh hamachi (yellowtail tuna), uni (sea urchin), ikura (salmon role) and spot prawn when available, cold-udon bowls in the summer, etc. Service is prompt and friendly, and points card are available for repeat customers. The restaurant also does good-value sushi platters for private parties.

Am I in Japan?

The food from this restaurant is excellent.
On top of that, the service is great!
I love their point system where you can pretty much get a free california roll after ordering from here twice.

Myself as a food critic, born and raised from Japan, the food here is the closest resemblance to back home.
Usually order myself the Combo A Set. Outstanding in terms of price and taste.
Their natto isnt that great but can not complain about anything else.

Give it a try!
