Breakfast at the Jericho hostel

We popped into the Discovery Café downstairs at the Jericho Youth Hostel for breakfast while scootering around the area on a sunny Saturday morning. Ordered the corn beef hash for me and the others got Chuckwagon breakfasts. Coffees was rich and we enjoyed a couple cups while we waited about 40 minutes for meals. There were only a couple other tables occupied so I don't know why it took so long but we weren't in any rush.

The corned beef hash was excellent...real corned beef (texture like pulled pork) with roast potatoes, onions and red peppers seared up with two soft poached eggs and hollandaise on top. The Chuckwagons were scrambled eggs, sausage patties, bacon, hash brown potatoes and a dish of baked beans. Each breakfast came with an enormous wedge biscuit with butter and jam. Lots of delicious food. Bill for three people was $42 including a tip. We'd definitely come back for breakfast and now we're wondering what lunch/dinner would be like.

NSCS Discovery- You have to try these cheap beach eats!!

Reminds me of Ocean Beach, California with below-retail prices, gourmet local meals prepared in-house, a patio close to the sea, and some world-class savoir-faire. I was staying with friends nearby in a villa and walked down to NSCS Discovery for brunch. Noticed how fresh everything tasted, that they use real cheese in the omellette and fresh, local herbs grown in the garden. More friends joined us an hour later and dined on hand-crafted mushroom and swiss burgers and a slow-aged corn beef on rye that was better than Mom's. Excellent coffee for $1.32 didn't hurt either after a long night of driving from Fort St. John. After the Chef and owner Don came to our table and asked us how our meal was, (to which we responded, mmmmh eh!) learned that he uses the proceeds to provide free training for his staff in cooking school. It's nice to know people in Vancouver still have a heart of gold welcome to travelers. NSCS Discovery food is worth 5 stars in my book because it is fresh, local and cheap. I would highly recommend this to all of your diners.
