Don't Eat Here

We wanted to try this place for lunch. Was hoping for some home style italian cooking. The place is cluttered and had a bunch of reserved signs on the tables so we thought maybe there was a big party coming in for lunch but no large party ever came in.

We got a table and proceeded to look at the menu.
I was in the mood for spaghetti and meatballs and inquired about the $7.95 lunch special and the server advised that was a half order and I may want to get the lunch size instead which was $10.95 on the menu. No problem, I was hungry.

My colleague is celiac so he asked about the gluten free pasta and was told he would have to order one of the dinner pasta dishes for $18.95 so he agreed and also ordered a glass of house red.
The food was ok with large portions but clearly made from frozen and packaged ingredients.

When we went to pay the bill my friend was charged $7.95 for a glass of house red and his pasta ended up being approx. $23. I was charged $14.95 even though the menu said $10.95 for full lunch size... Anyway, you do the math. I just paid it and had to laugh because for that price we could have eaten at Campignolo Roma down the street and had some amazing italian food with fresh ingredients.

Great, you made an extra $5 bucks off me... once. We eat out for lunch everyday and this place will certainly not make our rotation.

My buddy and I were looking for a hole in the wall to check out so we stopped in at Felicia's which is run by an older woman who may or may not be Italian. The interior of this restaurant is pretty random with various newspaper clippings and paintings on the wall and decor straight out of the 1970s. There was only one other patron inside at noon on a Saturday. We both ordered a cappuccino and the lunch special which was a tomato-based beef stew with gnocchi, salad and bread. The food was actually pretty good with the exception of the burnt garlic toast. However, when we received the bill, things went downhill. It was $40 including tip which is pretty steep for a lunch at a relatively run down East Hastings joint. I doubt I'll be back because I could have made the same meal at home several times for that price.
