Cheap Beijing Eats

Food: Braised Beef w/ Noodle in Soup and Beijing Style Pork Sauce Noodle both had handmade noodles. Flavor was pretty good, noodles were very dense and filling. I've had better cold noodles but they have been more expensive. Pan Cake w/ Pork comes w/ a small bowl of plain congee. I thought the pancake was fairly tasty, not too greasy. Veggie dumplings had a nice mix of filling but the pastry part was also very thick. I felt like they were trying to fill us up on flour!

Service: Tea was refilled continuously. Orders were taken politely and served in a timely manner. Nothing spectacular or worth noting.

Value: Beef noodle was $5.95, cold noodle $4.95, pan cake $5.95, and dumplings $4.95. Our meal for 3 came out to ~$23 before tip. Value is def there. Yes, I've tasted better but I'd have to pay more. This is okay if you want some Beijing/Northern style food w/o hurting the wallet.

Ambiance: Not sure what this restaurant use to be, but they didnt spend the time to redecorate. There's a fish on the wall that looks totally out of place. A lot of green and a lot of wood inside. They could use some work to make the interior feel more "Beijing" or authentic. Other than that, it's fairly clean inside.

Big Bowls of Northern Chinese Beef Noodle Soup

We were in Richmond looking for a bowl of noodle soup for lunch on New Years Day and literally stumbled onto the Beijing Noodle House. There were a few empty tables near the door so we grabbed one and checked out the soup offerings over a cup of hot tea.

We decided on a couple bowls of the Braised Beef Noodle Soup and they came out quickly despite the crowd in the restaurant. Noodles were great, in a rich beefy broth with lots of mostly tender braised beef chunks. There were a couple baby choy floating around for veggie matter. A hot and filling lunch.

The tab was $20 including tip. The decor is fairly spartan but the prices are right. Next time were in the area we'll branch out to the rest of the menu. A word of caution...the restaurant only takes cash so hit an ATM before you get there..

We waiting almost 10 mins to get served another to 15 mins to get our order taken but i had to walk up to the bar in order to our order taken. There was only 2 tables at this time. More customers started to come in. The waitress was taking orders and bring food out to other people who had gotten there after us. Very disappointed when we had to finally ask for our food to go because it had been an hour and we still had not received our food. And this was only soup

Our food was fatty and the broth had no flavour and i ended up throwing it out.

I will never go to the place again after the way i was treated.
