good food for the price

good food for the price. I used to go there all the time, but it's too far for me now that I found one closer to my area (happyvalley restaurant - same quality in food for larger portions and closer to my home and nicer ambniance). The only thing they could work on is:

1. better service - always feels rushed and takes forever to get the bill. Never get my water, ever.
2. the decoration is boring and old fashioned. washrooms.... errr yup.

Otherwise the food is pretty good for the price. some of my fav dishes:

The pan friend lo bak go - they make it the best here. I"ve pretty much tried that in most of the dim sum places.
The beef tendon hot pot. Deep friend little silver dollar fish. Deep friend tofu.

Other than sun sui wah, which sometimes are a hit or miss, If I'm in the area, I go here. But Sunm sui wah does have really good king crabs - the garlic style ones.

this used to be my Fav east side restaurant a few years back. But over teh years it has totally degraded - even after the new reno. I think the reno made it even tackier. The food wasn't as good as before and it's too expensive for what the food is worth.
Dim sum - average, too expensive for what you get, nothing special about the food
Dinner - huge disapointment! For chinese new years last year (2006) I took my grandma there and they rushed us, only giving us a little more than an hr to eat then billed us before we finished our main courses!!! We didn't even get desseert yet! We ordered fresh geoduck and that was a huge disapointment. It was cooked really poorly, totally not freash tasting, has taht stinky seafood smell and taste. Teh abalone was chewy and the shark fin didn't taste that good. the vegetables were greasy. The worst was the service. They pretty much didn't have any service. Becuase this was my fav east side restaurant, i gave it a few more chances on days where they're not as busy, like Monday evening. Yup just as horrible. WE didn't order the expensive stuff this time, jsut the cheaper items for a normal dinner. It was average food for the price we paid! actually now taht I recall it was quite pricey! average of $40/person. WE didn't have any fresh seafood either.

forgot to mention my fav dishes for:
dim sum: the ha gaws (shrimp dumplings) - they huge and yummy, Clams in black bean sauce - they're always good, the vegetables in supremem soup - totally not salty and greasy, the bean curd with two kinds of mushrooms, the jellyfish and pork, fish rice rolls and lotus leaf (or banana leaf ) wrap sticky rice. I haven't tried the congee yet.... I might go for late night one time and see how that is
Dinner - they have this special soup made from fish, tofu and vegetables. The fish is made into two dishes, soup and a sauteed one. That soup is soooo yummy!!! The soup is not on the menu, it's a daily special - only when they have that type of fish (think it's ling cod) available - so you have to ask teh server / manager if they have it. And i like the pigeons, very comparable to sun sui wah's pigeons. and the yummiest soya sauce sauteed fresh prawns ever!!! If you can bear looking at the head of the prawns then you must try this dish! Salty chicken is not bad too.

the only thing is the service. They could have better attitude workers. but I guess that's the same with most asian restaurants. The food was really good. (but the price is not cheap either). I love the fact that you can have hot pot with dim sum! Never had that before. my favorite is to have hot congee and get that boiling in the hotpot and put in fresh raw vegetables in teh congee and cook it infront of me! the congee is the yummiest when that happens!

Teh decor is nice, not tacky at all and the washrooms are clean.
The best food items I've tried are the congee and watercress and the bbq pork buns. I've been there many times over the years! the only thing they can work on is the service. they aren't the kindest

most of the food was good, but I found a bit pricey for what it was worth. Teh service was non existent like most chinese restaurant. but I liked the decorations. I found some of the food a little too greasy though. Parking to the place is really annoying. I can never figure out where to park. Overall it's alright, but I think for what I paid for I can get better food elsewhere. I've only tried dim sum at this location.

I went to this place serveral times already. the fisrt time to check it out. Then afterwards it was out of convience to meet my friends. The service in each and every one of those times sucked! There was no service! They got my orders wrong every time! The drinks were good though but the food was really really bad to average depending on the dish. The worst was the takeout food. the food melted the styrafoam! I showed them, they didn't care!
