Pretty good!
Submitted Friday, November 13, 2009 - 3:34pm [Dine in]

Just had lunch there. The shrimp wonton are pretty good. It's now $3.50 for a bowl. The shrimp are big and packed into the dumpling. The egg noodles are not overcooked as I was reading in an earlier review. I wonder what noodle they ordered.

I wasn't sure of the portion size, so two of us had a shrimp wonton bowl each, and order a fried rice (seafood) and a appy of Chilli Fried Shrimp. The seafood rice was huge and had a lot of seafood in it (fish, scallops, shrimp) and the chilli shrimp were great.

Great place for lunch, and for now...the price is right.

Great lunch!
Submitted Tuesday, October 20, 2009 - 4:18pm [Dine in]

Very pleasantly surprised. I walk by this place almost every day, and always has a great lunch crowd. A group from work went today for a birthday lunch.

When walked in, it just smelled great.
The prices are moderate for sure. $13-15 on average.

I had 3 course lunch menu, that included salad, steak/salmon, and dessert. Very impressed. Simple, tasty and great value. I had the steak which was good. But the dessert was fantastic. Others had the creme brule which was huge! My 3 course meal was $19 (I think it was supposed to be $23), but even so, for the extra $4 over the regular steak entree price of $19, I figured that would be a good deal. It was.

Very uncomplicated lunch, with surprisingly value.

I'm going back to try a few things that others had order. It all looked great!

Very pleasant evening.

We had a really nice evening here for my girlfriends birthday.

The staff were very helpful. Our waiter was excellent. The room ambiance was very pleasant. Modern decor as the name would imply without being a stuffy room.

The food was really good. I would say elegant and refined, but not overcomplicated, and the prices were reasonable with bigger portions that I expected. I also felt I got better service that the prices would dictate for being a moderately priced restaurant.

We had:
Caesar db Las Vegas - good.
Nova Scotia Lobster Salad - simple yet tasty with a good portion of lobster.
Country Duck Terrine - excellent.
Slow Baked Halibut - outstanding.
Steak dinner special - very good.

I am going back.
I want to try the burger. Yes. The burger.

No cheese?
Submitted Thursday, July 2, 2009 - 5:20pm [Dine in]

Not sure what the hub bub is on this place. I feel a bit duped. Glad I went to see what the hype was about (last Sunday), but I won't be going back.

I'm not sure the words "modern" and "mexican" belong in the same sentence. For a Mexican cuisine challenged city, the last thing we need is the French style restaurant experience (less is more?), when we barely have a decent regular Mexican experience here in Vancouver to begin with.

We only ordered two dishes, so I can only speak for those two. Nachos and a burrito (with green sauce). Nachos - they were tasty and an interesting recipe for sure. But Nachos with no cheese?
The burrito was sans rice, and any sort of traditional side like beans. Open it up and oh and look, no cheese here either? (I saw the chef opening bags of it...so I'm sure they have some there somewhere)

Big lineup, small place to make it somewhat crowded. Noisy, and really...no cheese?

Great patio evening
Submitted Thursday, July 2, 2009 - 5:07pm [Dine in]

Hadn't been back to Las Margaritas for a long time, probably 6 years or so. I always thought they were a bit on the pricey side. But in search for a Vancouver Friday patio after work, we braved the lineup (50 minutes at least) and got a prime spot on the deck.

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. I remembered them as having good food, but had found other Mexican alternatives with better food at a better price. With some of those alternatives (Topanga's) raising their prices and shrinking their portions, I was quite happy with the LM experience. Good food, average prices but we had a good time eating and drinking into the warm Kits evening.

Will go back. Surprised to see as many medium to poor reviews here. Will see when I go back how it goes.
