I've been here twice now and I have to say they have a lot of items to choose from :)

Aside from Shabusen, who is the king in both quality and options, I'd say this place comes in, slightly above Fish on Rice imho, 2nd.

Since this is an AYCE place, I do not want to critique it like a fine dining place.

The best thing you get here is service. For AYCE, service is top notch, humble and fast.

2nd highlight is the price. Decently priced and the food comes very fair and solid.

3rd highlight are the choices to order from the menu. This place has alot to choose from and since I'm a sashimi lover, I like this place - they aren't the type who only have tuna and salmon for your information!

I would come back to this place in the future for sure.

Over-rated, lying bunch of greedy restaurant entrepreneurs who are only out there to make money.

The food is definitely not fine-dining level at I do not think I had food quality that matched my bill of $600.

The portions are extremely small, which is something that represents fine-dining level. A pass here.

The fish was not the freshest - in fact one of the rock cod sashimis had a funny smell so we returned it and got something else. The only part that seemed to be alright was the salmon, but even that part I could taste it is not wild or organic, just your mediocre salmon bought in bulk.

The meat dishes really sucked. The next time I spend $25 on a teriyaki dish will be when I see cows-flying.

I ordered about 6 omakases for my guests and all of them seemed to be a little inconsistent. One of the dishes had flower petals - edible ones - while five of them did not. I asked the server if the chef had forgotten about it and the server said each omakase is different...weird.

Service was extremely slow and snobbish. With $600 worth of a bill, I expected my party to be treated like royalties. Instead I get impatient servers who think pigs should just order and shut up.

The atmosphere was stuffy and everyone did not seem to be into anything. Food was not at level with $600 bill.

I was so fed up that I did not even want to tip them but seeing how I do not want anyone chasing after me after I left the restaurant - thinking that they might because the tip is 15% of the bill - I tipped in the end.

Do not come here because you'll regret it.

Went there last night with my girlfriend. We had the lobster and salmon order for two and it came....

to be honest, for the amount of money spent here....i dunno...just doesn't feel fair. it's like a cook it yourself thing with two super heated pieces of stone - quite uncreative in my opinion.

the ingredients are fresh but if you want to do your own cooking without seasonings or flavor, why not just buy your own fresh seafood and do it at home? or find a nice outdoor place with some friends. with the amount of money we spent last night - close to 100$ - i could have bought enough fresh seafood for a group of 4 or 5 people...and this will include desserts and everything else :).

over priced and over rated in my opinion.

I've been to #9 a couple times and the portions are decent. However the ingredient quality fluctuate from time to time. I always order their beef brisket on rice because beef brisket on rice is like one of those dishes that can't really go wrong no matter how bad the chinese restaurant is.

overall, this place's food are mostly decent food and the prices are also mostly decent. Once in awhile i would order something that comes but looks less than it is actually priced.

and i agree with the poster below, it's one of those places to go to in the morning when you're out with friends and have no where else to go :).

As this place is a hot pot, the one main thing people should look for in is not really the skill in cooking the food, but the freshness. Everything is brought to the table raw and uncooked and you basically cook it yourself.

#1 - the broth was superb, over 60 different kinds of herbs and ingredients went into this magnificent broth.

#2 - we did order 1-2 side dishes, desserts pastry, and they were superb as well.

#3 - environment is very roomy, big, contemporary and clean

#4 - portions were generous and fair in comparison to the price. 84$ we ordered about 10 dishes of food.

I'd definitely come back to visit this place again since i didn't detect any use of MSG in the broth!!

I've eaten here very often with my mom because she likes to drink their beef bone soup. The food at this place, taste wise, is not the best out there however I will forgive them because the ingredients are very fresh and good quality. The taste is not something unacceptable but to me, i feel it's kind of like factory-lined food, has no personal touch or soul in it. for example, the kimchi at this place is not bad but is souless compared to kimchis at some other korean restaurants that have a specific distinct taste - however kimchi is just one example as alot of the ood I've ordered here contain, to some degree, this kind of trait.

However, flavor-wise, this is just my opinion and i highly recommend people to try this place for your own judgement when it comes to the food because i've enjoyed it despite it being somewhat like what i described.

Service is really lacking sometimes because the restaurant is huge and the waiters seem to be inexperienced. Attention needs to improve but attitude is not bad.

ambiance = food court

over hyped cream puffs. they're good but not that good.

puffs = fat, but the sugar level themselves i don't find it too sweet - only tried the vannila though.

over all, i am always disappointed that they're sold out of other flavors.

This place...well just don't dine in because it's a wreak. Take out is a better choice.

The food isn't particularly fresh and sometimes...well...from looking at the sanitation of the place, you wonder how clean the food is. The food is extremely greasy.

ingredients are inconsistent with meats being extremely good on some days and just.....garbage leftovers on others.

taste-wise, it's not too consistent either as on some days you feel like your eating salt on rice while on others it's like boiled meat in water on rice.

I only order the rice combos there so i can't say much about the tofu hot pots but from what i have tasted in the past, it's nothing to rave about.

even if the price is cheap and the amount of food is plenty, still i think the trade off is quite unhealthy - literally.

Authentic Japanese Cuisine-

I ate here tonight and although it's been nearly 6 years since I came back to this place (for no particular reason), the food is still the same! great consistency.

it's a very cute family owned business as you see the dad preparing the sushi and sashimis while mom and perhaps aunt or daughter cooking in the back. the son seems to make phone calls and deiliveries. the restaurant isn't big but it gets by.

clean, is the word.

now on to the food.

don't expect...well i guess anything fancy or fusionistic or contemporary in the menu as the selection has not changed much and everything is very traditionally shown and made. ingredients are very fresh and the method of cooking is very japanese and authentic. the sushi are not big and the meats are cut into near shreds and cooked with salt and pepper. the miso contains JAPANESE seawood. the condiments and sauces are all home made.

price wise, nothing has changed much except maybe small hikes here and there due to global inflation and gas. however the portions and the prices are more than fair and more than enough for the average joe.

I'd recommend this place for casual or business affairs.

I've always loved eating here. I always order the lamb combo because I find the lamb here is done very good when its done good but....when it's done not so good...i still like it lol.

If you're lucky to have abdul working while you're there, he'll give you larger portions naturally because he's a generous chef and owner.

sometimes, i find the purple salads that come with the combos to be inconsistent in flavor. i had it once where the flavor tasted like glue...so i stopped eating that.

over here, falafels are to die for and the hummus and taboleh are very well made - although not hard to make in the first place.

this place has always been a place i visit regularly and although the price may be a bit pricey for its location, crystall mall, the amount is more than enough for the average joe. quality of ingredients has always been consistent although if you do go very late....expect to eat the end of the day left overs.

Average Japanese Food

Since this is not AYCE, of course the ingredients are much better. However, if you're looking for authentic japanese food, this is not the place. the food price will also be a bit higher on average of 2-5$. The portions, however, are very generous but I can find same portions elsewhere as well for less the money.

Taste wise, not very japanese and the menu is nothing to rave about. I had the dinner box and my girlfriend had the tofu steak. At least they should accompany the tofu steak dish with a bowl of rice, like most japanese restaurants. the dinner box, at $16, was a bit pricey for my wallet but the portion, as i've stated, is enough for the average joe. beware though that this place uses sauces alot especially teriyaki. they think japanese food is basically teriyaki on rice.

service, kind of slow but i can understand since i went during dinner hour and the place was packed. waitresses are attentive and not rude or sloppy. however, expect delays when u order drinks because they forgot my order 2 times.

overall, i'd return for casual dining out but definitely there are better japanese places for the same price or less. maybe vancouver just has a higher rental fee lol...

Arrived here at 9pm so basically i kind of thought the place would be closing soon. I didn't want to hold up the place because it closes at 10. there was only 1 other table and the boss also seemed to be the waiter. i got the feeling the women in the kitchen must be the wife. anyways, as for service, because there were only two tables...i can't really give it a fair judgement - but from how i was treated, it was very good.

the food was not over the top but wasn't bad either. call it homestyle italian food if you will. prices are not bad either for the portions they give you, which is quite alot.

i'd recommend this place for casual diners.

This place's food is mediocre and for the price, there are other better choices of HK cafes in Richmond and Vancouver. The one thing this place does differently is the decor. it's so 70's retro! However going straight into the details of the actual food would be kind of vague for those who don't eat HK cafe stuff much because, first of all, there's SO MUCH HK cafe style food in richmond and vancouver and you really have to have tried alot first to truly be able to compare. Some people might like this place for the decor but overall the food in itself is nothing fancy and about 3-4$ more than your average HK cafe.

I took my girlfriend here on Valentines day and we were seated and greeted promptly by Fassil, the chef who cooked our food but also served our food. The place is small but as alot of people have said, food is what matters and this place's food is very good. Although it was my first time eating Ethiopian cuisine, I thought the food was very hearty and reminded me a little bit of my mother's cooking - and we're from Taiwan! The method of the foods that were cooked were simple, nothing french-like and the menu seemed to have a moderate amount of choices. However, despite that, the portions were very good and more than enough for the average joe. This place has no desserts so that was a downer :(...but than again...authentic Ethiopian cuisine, like they said, have no dessert because sugar was unknown until recently lol...

I'd definitely come back here again in the future although it's not a place I'd personally visit regularly. I'd probably bring friends here to wow them because it's so rare to find good Ethiopian cuisine in this city.
