La Regalade2232 Marine Dr, #103, West Vancouver
Losing its Lustre?
Submitted Saturday, January 17, 2009 - 3:37pm [Dine in]

At the last minute on a recent snowy night decided to try La Regalade for the first time in a few years. We've been several times previously and most meals were quite good.

Not having a reservation, we got probably the worst table in the place near the coatrack and washrooms, with chipped paint on the walls. Not a great start, but willing to give it a minor pass due to not calling ahead.

Still not sure who our server was. It seemed to be whoever was available when they zipped by, so we were asked twice about drinks, then food, then dessert.

Mrs. tritucker's meal was fine (lobster ravioli appy and veal main). Mine was definitely the worst I've experienced at La Regalade. The appetizer tart was dry and slightly burnt. For a main, I had the seafood vol au vent. It looked good and the pastry was very light and tasty. However, the lobster was like vulcanized rubber, there was sand in the scallop, and I'm not certain what exactly the ground-up fish-like substance was.

Topped off with sharing a mediocre meringue-based dessert, and left feeling quite disappointed.

Tap House, TheMain Street, West Vancouver
Nice Pub, Great Service

We had lunch at the Taphouse for the first time. Enjoyed the ambience of the place, really liked the menu - lots of interesting choices, and a very nice selection of beers and wine. The service was very attentive.

Despite the interesting menu, we played it conservative with the beef dip and burger. The beef dip was very good. We both had fresh and tasty side salads. The burger was huge and was good, but I found it overly spiced (though I am hyper-sensitive to spicy food).

When the server noticed that I had only eaten about 1/3 of my burger she asked if everything was okay. I explained that it was too spicy for me, but that I was extremely sensitive, so it was not a problem. And I told her the salad was excellent. She clearly felt bad and offered to bring me something else, which I declined.

When we received the bill, they had deducted the cost of the burger. I mentioned that this was not necessary, but appreciated. This is a great example of customer service that motivated this writer to do his first review. We will definitely be returning.
