Tried out C Lovers on Denman. Window says "best fish and chips in town". It was FAR from it.

$13 got me a tiny triangle of halibut that looked like it came from a box. Batter was bland. There was about 12 fries on the plate and a glob of 'slaw' which had waay too much mayo.

my partner got the halibut and caesar. another triangle of capt highliner fish with a tiny bowl of terrible salad. saddest plating you ever saw.

Been a while since i paid that much for such bad food. the menu and cooking style is "vancouver mexican" circa 1977 . flour tortillas, stale chips,salty tomato sauce all baked in cheddar ; )

guys, don't be afraid to use the spices and ingredients they actually use in Mexico. they're readily available and delicious !

Hadn't been in over a year. Lunch was SO bad it will be another year I'm sure.Thought I'd play it safe and easy with the spicy crispy chicken wrap. It was 98% chopped romaine and some tiny pathetic chunks of soggy - ice cold chicken. It was literally a single chicken finger out of the fridge. the coating was wet and had turned white from condensation. the wrap hadn't been warmed or grilled. how anyone can screw up a chicken wrap is beyond me. i told the server it was terrible. she said nothing and took it away while my date kept eating. no apology, no offer to fix or replace with something else. the bill came later and the server mumbled that she took off the wrap. thanks... I think?

Add Trolls to the ever growing list of iconic local spots that has obviously let quality and service slip away in the name of profits.

I was visiting Whytecliff Park with my girlfriend and suggested we go get some "good" fish and chips before heading back into town. When we parked she pointed at C Lovers and asked if that's where we were going. I laughed and scoffed at the idea of going to a "chain" for fish and chips when a landmark like Trolls was nearby.
Boy was I wrong!

Started by being seated directly adjacent to the opening to the kitchen where the staff all congregate and pick up orders. We were not so entertained by the adolescent staff throughout the entire meal goofing off, talking about partying and swearing like sailors. Probably heard about loud 100 fbombs. Very professional guys!

I ordered a two piece halibut. At $19 this is the high end of what you would normally pay at any fish/chip spot. So expectations were high.

10 minutes later I had the saddest excuse for a plate of food dropped in front of me. Two small and very dark pieces of fish (dirty oil? burnt? both??) on top of about 15 chips and a handful of greasy stubs. Garnished nicely with a tiny paper cup of prefab slaw and another cup of mayo - which I'm assuming was supposed to be tarter.

Despite being burnt, one fillet was obviously a nice piece of fish at one time. The other however was greasy, gray and smelled off. My illness later that evening can back that claim!

It was shameful and had me ranting afterward about the decline of yet another iconic spot. Looks like C Lovers next time. I guess we live in an era where you are now better off going corpo because at least they have standards to uphold.

Shame on you Trolls. Maybe when the owner won the lottery a few years back, he stopped giving a shit about the restaurant....

count me among those who loves mexican food and has been to mexico enough times that i constantly scratch head at why nobody in vancouver can get it right on a consistent basis. i've had food cooked in powerless huts on the beach that would put anything in this town to shame.

so with that, last night is the fourth and last time my partner and i will ever eat from Tio Pepe's. Now affectionately known as "Tio Poopy's".

i'm not here to put down others opinions here, but how on earth so many people are impressed with a basket of over salted prefab chips and salsa made from canned tomatoes, onion and salt to start their meal is beyond me. next up comes the worst excuse for sopa de lima ever made. watery, limey, tomatoey juice filled with a sh*t mix of poorly cut, inappropriate veggies. what on earth is broccoli, cauliflower, carrot and celery doing in that soup??? broccoli with lime is about as gross as it gets. no tortillas, no chilis, no queso. instead something that looks like the remains of the drain trap after doing the dishes. follow that up with an entree that tastes like everything else on the menu. low grade greasy tough meat, bathed in salty, unspiced canned tomato sauce with a side of wet lettuce, canned beans and undercooked cold rice.

seriously shameful, and obvious that they've got it down to a system that wastes nothing and ensures that every meal is made up of the same 4 things. so in keeping with the rest of the bad food on Commercial, Tio's is straight up crap :)
