One of our favourites

Whenever we have a family dinner with siblings, this restaurant is always considered. They have a room that fits perfectly for the 14 of us, although with the growing kids, this might be a problem in the near future.

The Chicken Katsu is a favourite of ours and has yet to disappoint us. The only problem and this can be bad sometimes is that they only have one fryer so if many people order dishes that needs the use of the fryer, well, you can imagine the wait time. I have eaten sushi, tempura, and teriyaki without any complaint.

The rating, 4 for food, very good, and to me, I think authentic Japanese food. Service, a solid 3, at times the room might be forgotten a bit. Value, the prices are medium, and to me, you get good food at a reasonable price. Ambiance could be higher if they updated the interior a bit, it hasn't changed since I have started going there.

I recommend this place to people I know, and I will continue to tell people about his fine dining establishment. Now, if they could only find some cash for an extra fryer.

Quite the experience

I have been a semi-regular patron of this restaurant for the past 2 years or so. For the most part, the food and service have been pretty good so I have recommended the place to friends and family. Well, how some things change.

About 3 months ago, I ordered a Green Curry which should be made out of coconut milk. Right away, after I received the dish and had a few bites, I knew something wasn't right, it didn't taste proper. A few hours later, I was sick, in fact the whole night wasn't a good experience for me. You can debate whether it was the food there or not, and I am not 100% sure myself, although this is not the only time I or one of the diners I went with had severe discomfort after a meal there. I suspect, dairy milk may have been used in place of coconut milk, hence the funny taste and maybe my troubled reaction to the dish.

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago. Friday and there were quite a few of us. Management in their wisdom had decided to turnover the patrons as quickly as possible. Well, the food and the service suffered badly.

Seated, and not a few seconds later, asked for our order. Not five minutes later, we received the soup, spring roll and lunch selection. Now, how do you expect to have anything resembling a good meal in 5 minutes. The food was mediocre and I am being kind when I say that. The staff was trying to pressure us to get out as quickly as possible, told us there is only a one hour limit for lunch patrons. Where that was posted in the restaurant, I wasn't able to see. A horrible policy to say the least.

Hey, they want a conveyor belt for patrons, in and out is all they want. Well, I did leave, I just don't think I will be going back. So lets sum up my rating, I gave food a 2 based on previous good meals, and it's not that high due to recent experience and the quite common occurrence of illness after dining there. Service is poor because they don't care for your experience there anymore, they care more about how quickly you can eat and leave. Value a two because the lunch special is quite the deal, although I should think about the food quality. Ambiance, well, just read the post again on why I gave it a 1.

For all the recommendations I made before, I am now telling people to stay away. A shame really, greed has taken over, perhaps the Thai House across the street will get more of my visits from now on.
