souffle debate!
Submitted Sunday, June 13, 2010 - 4:16pm [Dine in]

My friends went there june12/10 before going to the theatre on a busy saturday night and we sat outside. The view is lovely, and the atmosphere lively. The new menu had an oyster souffle - it's not very often you see a souffle on a menu. I should have been suspicious when there was no asterix * to mark "please allow 20 minutes" Well of course it wasn't a souffle it was oysters rockefeller with salmon- cooked oysters on the shell. Upon delivering the plate to our table, I promptly told the server that's not a souffle. The reply was- oh isnt' it?
Don't you know what a souffle is I inquired ? - I thought that was - came the reply. Look it's ok I'll eat it but your menu is wrong- this is not a souffle- not even close. Later, she came back to explain it was a new menu and the chef was being "playful" with the descriptions. To which I replied - there's playful/ suggestive and there's plain misleading and wrong......Now just to add injury to insult the manager that evening came by to investigate what the matter was- same conversation- oysters rockefller not a souffle- get this; the guy says "but it has egg in it!" Really so do cookies! one last time from me " your menu is incorrect it's not a souffle" he walked away in a huff!!! They did not even have the grace/common sense to comp the wronglfully described dish- So NEVER AGAIN- they could of saved the situation- but no there's just plain WRONG

Brasserie Bistro1763 Comox Street, Vancouver
almost perfect evening
Submitted Sunday, April 5, 2009 - 6:44pm [Dine in]

I've been to the brasserie three times now - each time food and service where outstanding- as long as your not in a hurry and are happy to wait - the staff are gracious and will do their best to seat you asap and offer you something to drink while you wait. Food is generous and very flavourful - arrive hungry- Pet peeve-
the music was much too loud and as the restaurant emptied (10ish) the sound stayed elevated which made conversation difficult- really it's not a disco and music should be background not forground - We ask several times for the music to be turned down to no avail which meant no desert/after dinner drinks- we went elsewhere! shame really we would have stayed had they obliged their paying patrons.
