This little snack bar sits nestled between the health and beauty department and the front cashiers at Army and Navy. You can choose to take your hot dog or egg salad sandwich to go, or sit at one of the orange plastic chairs and linger over your meal. You get to people watch: see the vagrants and crack-addicted clientele make their purchases on Welfare Day, or simply enjoy the entertainment as security wrestles a shirtless native to the ground. Portions are generous and likely past date, a selection of sodas on tap. Stunning, I will be back again and again.
I stopped in with a date to grab a quick lunch. I remembered eating here a long time ago, and the food was not great. I was hoping things had improved, since it's been there for ages. Anyways, I made the mistake of ordering the seafood spinach salad, against my better judgment. My friend just had fries and they were fine.
The salad tasted ok, the shrimp was a bit overdone but overall that was alright. The problem was the dressing, the salad was swimming in it. It was a warm dressing, but there was so much that by the time I was halfway through the salad the leaves were all wilted.
I should have complained but I was embarrassed, I said something to my date and he said "oh well, you can eat the fish" so I felt bad to make a big scene. So, he just paid and we left, me to nurse a tummy ache for the rest of the afternoon.
I was in the mood for Greek one night and decided to get takeout from Simpatico. Ordered a spanikapita dinner and pita and tzatziki. It came to about $17. Everything was sub par. First of all, it came with one piece of spanikapita, while most Greek restaurants for that price or less give you two. If it tasted really good I wouldn't care, but it was just ok. The worst part was the tzatiki - it was bland and not at all what I expected, plus there was about a tablespoon for the whole meal. The potatoes were wet and salty. The Greek salad was good, but how hard is it to make Greek salad. Next time I'll just go to Stepho's or Maria's for takeout.
I liked this place - I went there for lunch and it wasn't busy. The two of us liked our food - my husband had the chicken quesadilla and I had a Thai prawn bowl that was really tasty. The server was good, I mean, pretty similar to what you would get at Earls, or Cactus Club...only she wasn't as "i'm all that" as some of them seem to be. She brought us a tomato salad to start for free, saying that it was a new dish the chef wanted feedback on.
My only complaint is a few weeks ago we wanted to go there on a Sunday night and called for a party of 6 to make a reservation. They don't take reservations, and by the time we got there it was full and we had to go somewhere else. But I will definitely come back again.
I've been here twice for the all you can eat buffet. Super cheap -I think it's around $10 for vegetarian. Lots of stuff to choose from, there are twenty something dishes I think. Very hearty and delicious. I will definitely return here.
I came here once and ordered the veggie burrito - it was alright, tasted like something I'd make at home. There were way too many refried beans on the plate, they tasted kind of dry and mushy. Won't go back.
I've been here twice and both times have been disappointed. The first time, I started with the caesar salad and then the salmon, both which were just average. The presentation of the salmon left a lot to be desired. The second time, I just ordered the mussels which were in a totally flavorless broth. For the price you pay, I'd rather go somewhere else.
I wasn't really impressed with the food here. I ordered the mussles which were done in a thai broth that was just alright. I also ordered a beet and blue cheese salad to start that was dry and lacked flavour. The two other people at my table were not overly impressed with their food, either. Probably won't go back.
I found this place just okay. The service is a bit snobby, maybe because we aren't East Indian? I ordered the curry with Indian cheese and peas (I forget the name) but for the price I thought it was just average. The plus is they bring you this delicious bread before your meal. So good. I might return here.
I've eaten here twice and both times have just been average. Last time I went I ordered the mussels dinner, the mussels were in some kind of broth that wasn't all that flavourful. The fries tasted kind of soggy. My mom ordered the salmon which she said was just okay. I like this place better for drinks.
Two Parrots is great for after drinking greasy food: lots of stuff like zucchini strips, deep fried prawns...but for a regular dinner not so much. I've also been here for brunch and it was average. I ordered an omelette once that was good, but then I tried the eggs benedict and the sauce was almost fluorescent and tasted kind of weird and citrusy. I think I will stick to this place when I'm drunk.
I went to Nu for dinner with two friends, and I have to say I loved the decor and view. I am split 50/50 with everything - the service was ok but not great, and half the dishes we ordered were really good and the other half were just alright. The pear and walnut salad with beets was quite bland and small, but the goat cheese souffle was outstanding. The dessert I ordered - some sort of chocolate and nougat tart - was very tiny for $8 and I didn't think it was worth it. Probably wouldn't go back.
I tried this restaurant a few times and will never go there again. On my first takeout order they forgot the tzatziki, which I didn't realize until I got home. I went all the way back, was charged for it...okay, fine. The next time I called and ordered the spanokapita dinner, was given the appetizer instead. When I called the restaurant to complain the server argued with me "No, you ordered the spanokipita appetizer". When I finally asked to speak to the manager, he said "He's not here," which soon turned into "I'm his son, so I deal with things when he's not here." No offer to make things right, no apology...I won't be returning, especially since the food has been just so-so.
