This is my favorite place for wonton! (their noodles are from Hon's) If you get a "Bleach" smell from the noodles, it is because they did not rinse them enough. The wontons are shrimpballs and the broth is not loaded up with MSG. For those who do not know, you should not drink all the broth. You could get an MSG attack.
I have tried their fried rice, curried beef rice,chicken & mushroom congee(Tojo's favorite) Ma pa tofu rice and it has all been good.This is not a large quantity place.
I am perplexed by people complaining about greasy chinese food. Hamburgers, hotdogs,fries,potatoe chips, sausages,fried chicken, bacon, pizzas ribs.....are greasy also. If you do not want greasy food,then don't order it.

I have totally given up on this place that was built up by the parents of the sons that now run it. In the last year , I was desparate for some late night wonton. The last 3 times I went their, I ordered the same dish. Wonton Noodles with BBQ Pork.
The noodles were good, the brocolli was okay. However, the BBQ pork was not fit for human consumption! On Lok has good BBQ Pork, but the stuff they use in the wonton soup must be the 3 day old stuff! It was dry and hard....almost like jerky!
I noticed they do clean the windows now, so it looks better on the outside but you won't see me in there anymore.
And, yes I heard the guy screaming in the back. I think he said,"Shut the damn door....the mice are getting in!". (I am joking)

If you see everyone with their jackets on, you better keep your's on. The A/C is on high.
I usually go after midnight. The wonton is excellent. I also like their Beef Brisket Hotpot. I tried some dishes the waitress suggested.The Spicy Eggplant with pork was bursting with flavor. The other dish suggested was the Spicy Chicken on Deep Fried Spinach. Also flavorful and interesting. I call it Spicy chicken with plastic spinach.
I would prefer a tea kettle at the table,so I would not have to flag the waitress doen for refills. They also must get rid of the dish cart with the square wheels. It is super noisey with the dishes and cutlery bouncing around.
This is one of the last late night "cheap eats" chinese places in Vancouver.

Yes, this was formerly Ho Tak Kee. I was a regular for over ten years. My favorite dishes were the Wonton & the BBQ Pork & Shrimp Fried Rice! Other dishes I enjoyed were Curry Vermicelli Singapore Style, Beef &Tomato on Rice.
The new owner got rid of the night chef that was famous for the fried rice plates. The wonton was not the same. The BBQ pork had an off taste.I went there 6 times , hoping it would improve. It did not.
One time the scallops tasted bad. The waitress later told me that the cook knew they had gone bad, but the new owner ordered him to serve them anyways.
I am so sad this great "cheap eats" place was ruined.

I took my lady friend to Gigi's for dinner last saturday around 8 pm. This is the 1st & last time I will go there. We ordered a Chichi drink and the waistress says she will try to make one.What does that mean?
The calamri on the Calamari Platter was tastless, almost all batter. The ribs must have been from a small, starved animal. The worst was the BBQ chicken! The chicken was cold to luke warm! I asked the waitress to heat it up and she did. It came back microwaved. I dug into the dark meat (a thigh) and chewed on it. It was almost like jerky.Then I pulled the meat back and it peeled off to reveal some black ,rotting flesh underneath! I do not know if it was cancer or what! I did not want to make a scene, so I discreetly placed it on a side plate. It was absolutely disgusting.
The salad was very fresh and the garlic bread was good.
BBQ chicken & Ribs are too expensive for the quantity. The chicken was so disgusting. I will never go back there.
