I Used to love this place...but..

I've been going to Sushitown since they first broke away from sushigarden and established different chains...so thats about 6+ years i think?

for the first 2-3 years when the owner was still making the sushi behind the counter, the sushi was great

as soon as he expanded sushitown to 2 then 3 locations, the quality took a nose dive.

instead of skilled chefs behind the counter, its all students behind the counters. The quality of the sushi is the same in the sense of the ingredients that go into the sushi however the prep is very very poor

The sushi pieces range from ridiculous thick and large to ridiculously thin. The rice falls apart the moment you breathe on the roll let alone put it down on the table or poke it with your chopstick.

Preparation is nonexistant. If you come here, just have the Sashimi, Nigiri, or other cooked food that require the kitchen like the Karrage, Dons or udons... cuz the sushi department is baloney

Excellent Sushi, and sashimi.

anyone who has been to Sushi Garden, Sushi Town or Sushi California, Oyama is equivalent to all of these and adds a kick to the menu.

They have their own special sushis and dishes that add a lot more variety for lunch or dinner.

Off the top of my head i know they have Takoyaki (its okay... just average but its on the menu and its not bad) and they have Black Dragon Roll, etc.

At lunch time, its not as busy for whatever reason so the service was very good.

when i went back for dinner, it was MUCH more busy so the time that the waitresses could assist each table went down dramatically however they were still courteous and attentive.

Overall, I'd Definitely come back to Sushi Oyama because the service, the food, the attention to detail, and the way they plate the food is exceptional and to my liking

here's the skinny

their beef burgers consists of high grade chuck steak, thats how they justify the price

their pulled pork is marinated VERY well and the flavour is mindblowing

their Frenchfries are thick cut Steak House fries

Their Special Dish that i have not seen anywhere is their signature "house fries" which is essentially Chilli fries, with their take on gravy
--> at about 6-7$ for this side dish... it better deliver...and it does... very well its amazingly good.

overall, their food is very good. However, the prices are the deal breaker. yes its good, but for the same price, i'd rather go to another burger joint like Bronco Belle in Brentwood Mall's Food Court and have a wild [meat] burger.

They marinate the meat very well and if they claim that the meat was of higher grade then maybe it justifies the cost however, its still ridiculous to get a normal burger with no sides for around 8.50 + tax

The meats sold in this Restaurant [ chain ] are all wild.

My favourite burger is the Bison Burger. Its very lean and has a bit of the game taste to it.

They also have lean beef burgers, venison, boar and chicken.

The Other excellent burger is the Chicken Sticks burger...its to die for. However, sometimes they marinate the chicken to much and add too much sauce, but the overall taste is still great.

The average cost of a burger is about 5.30, if you want a side like fries or salad just add 0.90$ so your total for your meal should be around 6.20$ after taxes which is a pretty good deal considering you're eating healthy wild meat and not mystery meat like in other fast food chains

Their French Fries are thick cut and resemble wedge fries... but cut thinner.

Honestly, their burgers are some of the best and I would have to say for the price and taste, they definitely outclass chains like Fat Burger.

The only small chain that I think rivals Bronco Belle may be the local burger joint in burnaby called "Burgers Etc." and although their burgers are delicious, they are exorbitantly priced at around 9$ for a plain burger but ... i'll save that for another review
