Dime Road House, The1565 Commercial Drive, Vancouver
unexpectedly rad
Submitted Tuesday, December 11, 2012 - 9:47pm [Dine in]

Came here on a Tuesday night.

I really didn't have too many expectations from a place this inexpensive.
Mainly went here cause it's close to work and cheap.

Ordered the macaroni and The Dime burger.

I normally like my macaroni and cheese on the gooier side, but the flavour totally made up for it.
The burger was really fantastic! Perfectly cooked...juicy, bigger than I hoped, and nice fluffy bun.

I'm really glad I came here.

Not only was the food better than places that charge more, all of the staff members were really nice and attentive.
Music was dope too.

Thanks for a great dining experience!

1/2 was kinda good...
Submitted Sunday, January 30, 2011 - 7:52pm [Dine in]

I went a few weeks ago to check this place out.
The service was great and the ambiance was cozy until the kitchen made the restaurant so smoky you could see clouds forming in front of you, Would have been nice if someone opened a door but otherwise the servers were great.
I ordered the lamb special and my boyfriend ordered the stuffed kalamari.
Both the roast lamb and the kalamari were fantastic.
However, the only side that was any good was their tasty greek salad.
The potatoes were nowhere near as lemony as ones you would find in many other greek restaurants.
Rice was mushy and bland. I rarely add salt to my own cooking and NEVER add salt to restaurant food... except this one time at Bouzyos.
The only way I'd go back is if they changed their rice and potatoes. The amazingness of the rest of the meals didn't make up for the boring parts.

It's just Domino's.
This is the only pizza place I can gorge on and not feel stuffed after.
I guess they don't put enough toppings on and the crust is kinda thin.
The guys working there were great. Big friendly smiles and warm greeting.
There are too many better pizza places to really bother with them again.
Order from there if nothing else is open. Seriously,

Friendly Banners Restaurant1690 E 12th Avenue, Vancouver
Submitted Thursday, January 6, 2011 - 11:37pm [Dine in]

I went here because a loving family member gave me an entertainment book full of coupons including but not limited to a 2-for-1 entree special for Banners. I'm really glad we didn't pay full price. Really glad.
Before I sound like a really picky cheap ass, I've paid less at other diners close by for greater portions and tastier food. I can be pleased.
The chicken quesadilla my buddy ordered was appetizer sized.
The alfredo pasta I ordered was small, greasy, and tasted like milk and margarine till I tried to save it with Tabasco.
Staff there was awesome. I could see people going there for the service... and maybe the Baskin Robin's.
I probably won't go back. There are far better places to go in this city.

best fake meat I've seen in my life
Submitted Thursday, January 6, 2011 - 11:19pm [Dine in]

I give this restauraunt one big WOW cool.
We ordered 49. Assorted vegetables with mutton in curry sauce and 54. Fried with mixed vegetables, nuts, fungi and seafood.
The quality of the fake meat was so great that my fellow omnivore thought that the mutton was from a real sheep. The sauces on each of the dishes were perfect along with the vegetables.
I would recommend either dish to anyone.
The decor was hit and miss. Cool painting of a tree on the wall but the dried flowers on the table made me feel like I stumbled into my granny's bathroom.
Service was super. Everytime my water glass was emptied... it would be refilled seconds later.
I definitely want to go there again. Especially to try the "bean crud". Sounds like a delicious typo.

I went there cause the bf said the burgers were good.
Was he ever right!!!
I had the Deluxe burger. The fries are tasty too. Try it with gravy.
Or you know.... try some of the other yummy sounding dishes.
Putting the lasagne on the to do list.
Music was decent. Staff was nice. Ceasar was so so but who cares.

everyone was happy
Submitted Sunday, April 27, 2008 - 4:56pm [Dine in]

Just ate at this restaurant yesterday.
The 5 of us showed up pretty early in the evening so service was awesome. Wondering what service would be like later in the evening but our server was great.
Everyone loved what they ate. The quality of ingredients, preparation, etc.. was pretty high.
One had a hamburger, other had the grilled salmon, another had the steak, my bro had fish and chips, and I had the tuna salad.
The french fries there are SO good.
Don't miss out if you love fries.
The only problem was that my mom thought the music was too loud... but she always thinks that music is too loud.
I recommend this place for sure.

1/2 good 1/2 crap
Submitted Sunday, January 27, 2008 - 2:19am [Dine in]

The eating area was beautiful.
The belly dancers were super fun.

We were a group that was large enough to order one of everything and it was all really really good.
The roasted lamb and chicken was the kind of stuff that flaked at the slightest touch and the seafood was done to perfection.

The service was total crap. Except for the main guy everyone seemed nervous and shy about when and where to bring food.
Maybe there was some sort of communication problem as there were lots of people serving us.

They also took a bit too long to clear away the plates and bring courses. Our dessert didn't come till we were getting our coats.

We were also REALLY REALLY disappointed with the bill.
First of all... a few things on the menu that were ordered... didn't arrive.
Next... we didn't order bread, they brought us bread, we thought that it was complimentary like the bread in every other fancy restaurant.
But noooo.

So with the things that we did not order that arrived and the things we did order that did not arrive... plus the dessert that we didn't have time to eat--- $825 for 15 people. Which would have been okay ish if the service was more timely.

Too bad. I would have gone there again if it wasn't for the total screw ups and expense.

I LOVE this place! Went there with brother and his gf. We stuffed our guts on $30ish dollars. And the food was good! I thought about it for the rest of the week. haha
And it's ALWAYS packed.

I almost don't want to say it's so good cause the lineups are long enough already. :)

I tried this restaurant for the first time the other day.
Got #4 on the menu. A lamb dish with tumeric, ginger, etc...

I was really pleased with the ambiance. It's so clean and peaceful.

The food was fun to eat. A bit on the tough side but still tasty.
My friend who had been there before said to avoid the beef.

I would go there again. Good prices for what you get.

one of my favourites
Submitted Wednesday, June 6, 2007 - 7:02pm [Dine in]

The food is delicious and reasonably priced. I can eat a decent meal for $10 or gorge myself on $20.

My favourites on the menu are the Salad roll, Grilled pork and ground shrimps on vermicelli combo, and the avocado shake. The only thing on the menu I thought was weird and gross was the shredded pork and coconut milk on rice noodles. It was coconut dessert goo on noodles and pork on the side..... not a stir fry of pork in coconut milk like I thought. Too strange for my white mouth. haha

The people are really really nice. My friend accidentally dropped a huge wad off cash after paying and the guy ran up the street after us to give it back. :-)

I used to go here for breakfast all the time.
I love how they have a million things to choose from on the menu and they are all CHEAP and all tasty.

My only problem is that it is always so crowded and popular.
Try not to go if you are starving to death.

Oh the smell in the bathroom is VILE but the graffiti is incredible.

pleasant surprise
Submitted Monday, April 23, 2007 - 10:58pm [Dine in]

I went to Zocalo for the first time for a fundraiser.
I thought the atmosphere was nice and cozy.

The blonde server was VERY VERY attentive.
There was a huge crowd of people and I didn't feel neglected by her.

The food did take forever to arrive but I am pretty sure it was because of the event going on and the fact that everyone pretty much showed up at the same time. But I had a bowl of spicy peanuts on the table that lasted me till the food arrived.

The alcohol selection was great. The menu suggested good food pairings for the wine which was nice. I ended up trying the white wine sangria. Very refreshing. And then after had Patron tequila... the only tequila worth drinking.

The food selection was a bit limited for my liking, but what was on the menu seemed appetizing. To eat I decided to try the Chicken Mole.
I've never had Chicken Mole but it's now my new favourite food.
The vegetables on the side were done to perfection. The chicken was so perfectly juicy that it might have tasted good without the sauce. But it's such a great sauce why would you?

I went with a group to this restaurant. We all appreciated the environment and the music.
Everyone liked the food. The portions were a good size. Some girls shared a platter for one and were satisfied.
I shared a combination appy plate and tried the Ashuk.
Both were delicious. A few people said they were going to go back.
We were seated quickly and served quickly. The plates weren't taken away as fast as I liked and we could have been asked about refills a bit more but other than than I have no complaints.
