Kisha Poppo Japanese Restaurant11660 Steveston Highway, #1060, Richmond
We're repeat customers
Submitted Monday, October 31, 2011 - 9:48pm [Dine in]

I'd been a frequent customer of the Kisha Poppo downtown so was happy to find one in Richmond. We've been a few times now, mostly at dinner and always for the all-you-can-eat sushi menu. The pros and cons:

On the pro side:
- The choices for the all-you-can-eat menu are extensive; I'm not a big fan of rice, and have lots of things to choose from.
- The food comes relatively quickly, so you can order small amounts and keep ordering, without getting funny looks.
- The portions are on the small side, so you can taste a lot of choices without filling up on one or two things.
- Seafood motoyaki, teriyaki chicken, tempura ... they all come hot and tasty. I've never found the gomae watery, either.
- The tea keeps coming, and you're not rushed.

On the con side:
- They don't have a wheat-free soy sauce option. I didn't ask about low-sodium.

I've seen nothing but bad reviews for this place, and I don't understand it. I've eaten out a lot, and am relatively picky. I never had a bad experience here and am going back this week for a birthday party, that's how confident I am about it.

Staff get beligerent over tip
Submitted Saturday, January 29, 2011 - 4:05pm [Dine in]

After some OK dim sum that came to $31.10, we left $35 and gave the waitress our parking slip for validation. The waitress started berating us for "not leaving a 10% tip" (arithmetic alert: $3.90 is 12%). We kept trying to explain that we didn't want any change back from the $35, but all that did was make them louder. At some point, we just left, and heard them talking overly loud, dissing us in Mandarin (they thought we didn't understand them - hah) but obviously just wanting to humiliate us in front of other patrons.

Aside from their staff being unclear on the concept that tips are *earned*, ...

This was the second time we'd been there. The first time, we ordered the deluxe hot pot and some dim sum for lunch, and so it took us about 1.5 hours to work our way through it. Just after the 1-hour mark, they started vacuuming in an adjoining section. At first, we thought it was to clean up after a family with little kids, but then we realized they were jumping the gun with their afternoon cleaning. Pretty shabby, considering two of us had just dropped about $60 there.

Needless to say, we won't be returning. Ever.

Kefi Greek Kouzina100 Schoolhouse St, #102, Coquitlam
Real Greek food
Submitted Tuesday, July 17, 2007 - 6:52pm [Dine in]

We go to Kefi whenever we can because it reminds my spouse of Greece - real Greek food, not the cookie-cutter stuff you can find anywhere else. The family that runs the place provides great personal service, and tries to make sure that everything is to the customer's satisfaction. I'm fussy because of food allergies, and they bend over backwards to substitute things to accommodate me. And their desserts are made on the premises, which is why a couple of them take so long to come out after dinner: they're making them from scratch in the kitchen.
