Good food, good service

Their asparagus soup is really tasty (rotates as a 'soup of the day') and their mini chocolate "croissants" are a great treat at $1 a pop. For a Yaletown soup-and-sandwich joint, their prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality of the ingredients.

I'm assuming it is the owner who has served me on both occasions: he is very friendly and attentive. Good service goes a long way and I'll definitely be visiting again.

really poor service

i'd visited this location last fall and had made reservations ahead of time for a party of 12. they assured me over the phone that we'd be seated together in a room.

upon arrival the day of, i was told that the party before us had started late but they were hoping that they'd finish up soon and also, that we wouldn't be able to get a room. fine, i said, as long as we'd be seated together, which the hostess assured us we would.

when they were finally ready to seat us (well over 30mins after our reserved time), they seated us at 3 separate booths, so that those seated at the 3rd booth could not interact with the other 2 tables.

the food was decent, but a lot of our orders never arrived and no one bothered to tell us that maybe the kitchen had run out of certain items. they were also out of ingredients for many of the drinks we wanted to order.

by the end of the meal, they actually rang up our bill with a 15% gratuity as a party of over 8 people when a quarter of us weren't even seated so that we could interact with everyone else! i was quite ready to complain and refuse to pay the 15% gratuity but my friend's husband didn't want to cause a fuss and footed the bill quietly.

rest assured, i will not be visiting that location again. poor service like that is a deal breaker.
