Decent little place but amateur staff
Submitted Sunday, January 10, 2010 - 10:04am [Dine in]

Went with a couple friends I hadn't seen in a while to catch up and have a bite to eat and a couple beers. This was a Saturday around 8pm. The food was quite good although the menu consisted only of burgers or sandwiches if you didn't want an appie. Unfortunately though, because of the music playing, the rest of the evening consisted of yelling at each other across the small table! The music in the place is a pretty bad mix of 90's music with a heavy dose of Tragically Hip. But the main problem is that each song in their mix is wildly different volume so that you are literally shocked out of your seat when the next song comes on at twice the volume of the previous one. Very amateurish and not very conducive to talking, which is about the only thing you can do at Elwoods! Won't be going back.

Amazing for business or with friends

I took several people out for a business supper and was very impressed with all aspects of the night. From the moment you step through the door you know you are in a different place than the street you stepped from. Everyone greeted us when we came in and lots of smiles. Very attentive service and excellent food. Extensive non-sushi menu that really delivered. I would highly recommend this to anyone for any occasion.

Nice website, poor service and food

Went on a nice afternoon and sat on patio which was nice.

On the way in noticed the entire kitchen staff outside smoking. This should have been a sign of things to come I think.

Inside ambiance consisted of TV blaring sports which seems to clash with their menu significantly. Trying to not be a pub but that is all it really is. The patio was nice though.

Waited well over an hour for the meal. As I was going to the bathroom after about 50 minutes the waitress asked me as I passed by her station about one of the options that I had ordered. I think she forgot the order.

When the meal arrived we were all very underwhelmed to say the least. With prices in the high teens to mid-twenties per dish we were expecting something significant, either in the way of portion size or quality. Unfortunately neither were satisfied.

The homemade fish and chips didn't really look homemade and had one very small sad piece of fish and a sea of cheap fries surrounding. Nothing else on the plate.

The wild mushroom ravioli was also a tiny portion and it tasted like my first attempt at making homemade pasta: too thick so that what you feel in your mouth is a chunk of dough instead of a fine coating. I think they need to roll the dough a little thinner!

Lastly, the half rack of ribs. This was by far the most complete meal of the bunch with a baked potato and fried veggies, but the meat was pretty sad. Very fatty, so much so that I had to leave half the plated volume on the plate.

I'm not the worlds best cook but every single item that we ordered could have been done better if I had cooked them at home myself. That to me is the mark of a poor dining experience, if you don't feel that they did anything better than you could do yourself and yet you come away paying close to $100! Stay away from this restaurant.
