A Place to Go
Submitted Sunday, April 26, 2009 - 12:17am [Dine in]

Each to his own, I suppose... but reading the reviews has me scratching my head.

To begin with the greeters at the door have always made me/us feel welcome. Unlike many places, the seem genuinely happy to have clients walk in.

The service has always been terrific. In any event, I go there to enjoy the experience... not be rushed out the door. A bit of a wait allows you to sit back, relax, enjoy yourself before dining.

Taste: Perfectly delicious. The roasted potatoes are perfect. Their souvlaki (chicken) melts in your mouth and is again, delicious. Spinach Pie... great. Can't report on seafood... i don't touch the stuff... but Kethedes are delish... as is anything I have tried there.

Price: So, I;m spoiled. I love the prices at Stepo's on Davie. I love their food and the taste of their food. But if I am on the North Shore and don't feel like fighting the bridge traffic... this is my second favourite (quantities are less than the other one I mentioned with higher pricing... but it's still a place to go).

It's a place to go
Submitted Sunday, May 27, 2007 - 9:43pm [Dine in]

Ok, let's first talk about the food. If you're a Vancouverite or have lived here for the amount of time I have (30 yrs), the Bino's can be nostalgic. Where else could you go 30 years ago for a muffin the size of a football and decent coffee? Bino's. Where else could you go for Turkey Vegetable soup that had REAL turkey in it AND chock-full of veggies?? Yup... Bino's... and who had the best darned Clubhouse Sandwiches (beCAUSE they used real turkey in 'em),,, not to mention great fries? Uh huh... Bino's.

So has anything changed in this VERY LAST STANDING Bino's?

Ans: No. Same muffins (bran btw) that are the size of footballs. (Now for those who don't know... these are the same size as MOST big muffins... but Bino's STARTED the whole thing years ago by MAKING them this big. Others followed!)

They come out hot (probably microwaved) with whipped butter and jam. Oh yeah, raisins are in 'em too.

The soup is just as good... just as the Clubhouse sandwiches.

For those who DO remember the dishes... same dishes! No kidding. The place needs to be remodeled but it's not going to happen and the bathrooms... well... let's not go there. THEY can use some help for sure. Service is GREAT even at night when only one server works. And price? CHEAP for breakie, which is avail anytime. $3.95 for 2 eggs, pancakes and bacon. (coffee extra).

See ya there!

Went twice for lunch during the past few months and had magnificent pasta and meat sauce. Really delicious. Could have eaten more...

Parking is a bit of a challenge because it's on a busy street in North Van (Marine Dr) and pricing is not the cheapest... but i guess you have to 'pay the rent' for them too.

Would i repeat? Without question.

Once upon a time...
Submitted Sunday, May 27, 2007 - 8:24pm [Dine in]

Once upon a time it was a really good place. The previous owner (of the restaurant AND hotel) was a great guy. Even sang to entertain his guests. Then he sold it. I tried it a couple of times after the sale and was disappointed each and every time. The food was cold, service was colder and they never got things right when the food DID arrive.

Would I repeat? Nope never. Two other great places are Amorosa's on 6th and Edmonds and for a bit more $, La Spaghetteria. Both will satisfy nicely.

No problems here

It's Boston Pizza... the same as everywhere else. Yes it costs a bundle to have one of their pizzas... and yes you can buy Dellisio for 1/3 of the price. But the same can be said of steak too, right?

As it happens I find their tomato sauce (which makes the pizza btw) to be best of all and I happen to love anchovies and they've got 'em and bake 'em right on there.

The service (take-out or eat-in) is not 5 star by any means but the pizzas are tasty.

Would I repeat? Yup.

It's fine, really

Well if you like Filipino food, then the place would probably hit the spot. I am a fussier eater, so most of the items on the menu don't tempt me that much. However, neither does Sushi, Indian food, etc... so judge accordingly.

I HAVE had deserts there and coffee... and THAT was just fine. The place is like one's living-room. some couches, some chairs and small tables. The service has always been fine for me and I have been there a number of times.

The music has ALWAYS been fantastic and the fact they allegedly don't pay their performers (according to a previous and unsubstantiated review) is not relevant as the performers obviously WANT to perform there. Some have been doing so for quite a while so take THAT for what it's worth too.

There has never been a cover charge to listen to the music and i have NEVER had a bad experience there. Will I return? Absolutely.

I don't get some of these reviews!

I have eaten here countless numbers of times. I have NEVER EVER, EVER had an experience like the ones described on this review thread. First of all, the servers have ALWAYS been polite, professional and competent. They greet you with a friendly and warm hello when you come in.

The owner is there half the time and HE does the same. Pasta? Cooked perfectly each time. Meat Sauce? If you like that, you won't be able to get enough, it's that good.

Meat Balls? Tiny little things that melt in your mouth and are authentic. A decent wine list... and their Veal (lemon) is delicious as well (although i prefer larger quantiies). Their place is NOT that small. There are seats for 25 or so in the front... another 25 to 30 or so in their other room and for Pete's sake, they have a dining area for functions UPstairs too. Prices are not super cheap, they are standard for a pasta/Italian dinner. The patio is nice, parking is on the street (some meter parking) but they have a parking area in the back of the restaurant as well. Would I go again? In a heartbeat.

Great place

First, inexpensive. Who really wants to pay a million bucks for a plate of noodles, anyway? Okay, that said, this place provides very generous quantities with a delicious sauces.

The meat-balls leave a bit to be desired (that's my opinion anyway cause i LOVE meat-balls). But I order 'em anyway because they're ok. I find them a bit 'hard' and there's 'something' about the taste... maybe a lack of garlic and too much basil?? I don't know... but they're not my faves.

However the pasta is ALWAYS cooked perfectly. The meat sauce is bread-dunking good and EVERYone i have EVER taken there LOVES the place too.

Service? No problem. They are usually VERY busy with a line-up on weekends. Worth the wait, btw. Ambience? It looks like a litle Italian restaurant... clean facilities, etc. Parking can be a bit tough but it's available on the street and i believe they have a parking area in the back down a narrow alley.

I am not a wine-drinker but from folks I go with, their comments are that the house is fine and extreeeeemely reasonable as well.

Well worth the visit and if you go, you'll be back
