So for 2008 we have decided to try dinehere.ca's top restaurants. We started with Parkside. When you go out for dinner you want it to be memorable and it was not. All though it was good it was not great. Our food was just put down infront of us with no description. The restaurant was freezing which made us want to leave sooner than usual. Once we visit the rest of the top restaurants we will give it a second chance. We met the owner (I think) and his heart is definately in the right place. Stay tuned.

Start to finish what an experience! Lets start with the phone call to make the reservation. The hostess(maitre'd?) who answered on the other end politely asked just a few questions about the reservation. Our reservation was on a Saturday so I asked about parking as my guest was in a wheelchair and she was grascious enough to offer us a spot in their private parking around back. She even gave us directions on how to find it. It was a small lot but they saved us a spot. Upon our arrival a cook was out back and was cleaning up. He welcomed us and walked us thru the kitchen to the front (suddenly I felt like I was in goodfella's). It was 6:30 and the restaurant already had a buzz (I like that).

The maitre'd/host greeted us and took us to our table. He gave us a nice introduction to the restaurant and welcomed us as it was our first time. My guest had the fois gras to start and I had the calamari salad. Amazing! I know longer look at Calamari as being simplistic. Before that however chef suprised us with a little Amuse Bouche to start. Normally you ony see this at the likes of West and Lumiere so it came as a nice suprise. For mains I had the sablefish with pulled pork and my partner had the lamb duo with french chocolate. You wouldnt think they would go but absolutely magical. We skipped dessert as we were too full. We ordered wines by the glass all night as we wanted to pair and left it upto our server to decide. She did great but I think she had help from their sommelier. The only knock to this place is the bread service. The special oil and vinegar amazing. Bread not so much. We will go back and refer to friends.
