A bit disappointed
Submitted Wednesday, October 28, 2009 - 1:14am [Dine in]

Went with a friend 2 weeks ago, got high expectation from the reviews, but end up a bit disappointed. The food is decent, but couldn't recall anything that's really exceptionally good. We ordered prawn sashima, it's fresh. Dan Dan noodle, their menu said it is the best in the world, but I feel it's taste is bit too strong, but I did manage to finish the Dan Dan noodle soup too. We also ordered a duck hot pot, it was decent but same problem, the soup tastes a bit too strong. I couldn't remember what else we ordered as they were nothing memorable. We tried their two desserts on the menu, the Tiramisu cake is tasty, probably the best dish for that night's meal. I end up paying the bill, 80.00 including tips, which is reasonable for a downtown Jap restaurant, but since the food is not as good as expected, I only give it a 2 stars on value.

Try their Sesame icecream

One of my friend knows the chef and recommands this place to us, but it's kinda far from where I live so I never get to try it out. My family went to the Golden Ear Park on weekend so we get the chance to try this place out.

We got there around 2pm and there were 2 other tables occupied, so not so busy. We ordered right away and the waitress suggested the daily special Kushi oyster, which is exceptional fresh, my parents don't eat oysters so I just ordered 3 of them (2.00 each), I'm not a big fan of oysters but I do usually have 1-3 of them while I'm having Jap food, I wanted to order more after finished the first 3 but I figured I should save some spaces for other food. But Kushi oyster is recommanded for people who love oysters.

We also ordered Saba fish, prawns and yam tempura and 5 different rolls. My parents don't like raw food so I didn't order any sashimi. I like their miso soup, I don't know what they added, but I do feel it's better than most of the other miso soups I have had. I like their tempura too, it's crispy and you can tell it's fresh made, but a bit oily. I intentionally tried 5 of their different rolls and I do strongly recommand their Philadelphia Roll, it has smoke salmon on top and inside with fresh salmon and cream cheese, I like the texture of it and the cream cheese really goes really well with the 2 different salmons. One of the best roll that I have ever had. Other sushi rolls are all above average and I like the Samba roll too, it's quite simple, just mango on top of California roll, but I like the taste of it.

Last but not the least, try their Sesame ice cream, it's not on the menu, and usually they only provide it to frequent customers, but I think you can request for it. It's really really good, I love ice cream and this one is a must try. Too bad it's airshipped from Japan, and is not on the market, what a shame.

Overall, really good food but it's 45mins drive from my house, so not sure what's the next time I get to come again.

Best Black Cod
Submitted Wednesday, October 28, 2009 - 12:11am [Dine in]

Went there with 6 friends last week for dinner, we had a hard time finding the entrance and we missed the entrance twice driving by (right beside Max store). The place is a bit small but the decoration is comfortable, earned a 4 stars rating.

We were greeted by the waitress and there is also a tea menu with different choices of green tea and herbal tea, i picked a pear green tea, 3.50, which is ok. We ordered a 60.00 set dinner (we were told it is just for 1 person, and we found the price is a bit high for a single person but we wanna give it a try, and it can actually feed 2 ppl with 1-2 appetizers or another order of sushi roll. We also ordered dragon roll, another roll which I forgot the name, both rolls are decent. The set dinner has soup, 2-3 appetizers, oysters, sashimi, lamb ribs which is not too bad for 60.00.

Every dish we ordered is above average but the black cod is really outstanding and is the best black cod that I have ever had, the fish is fresh and is juicy and everything is just right, perfect dish. We wanna order another one but it was sold out already. We ordered dessert as well. The bill is 350.00 including the tips, a bit higher than we expected as we saw the price range is 20-30 per person on the web, but overall the quality is good.
