Awkwardly quiet

Was craving some sushi, drove down to Toshi to realize they were closed on Monday so didnt' know what to do! As we were heading up the street we found this place tucked away so decided to give it a shot. Place was completely empty at 7:30pm and remained so our entire meal. The servers and manager/cashier just stood at the counter facing us, way too over-attentive making me and my hubby very uncomfortable. We had a couple dishes, the sashimi was fresh enough, the rolls were too warm but soft and tasty! The specials I noticed on the piece of paper looked way overpriced so we didn't get any. Probably wouldn't come back unless I was in the area and Toshi was closed or too busy.

Not the best, but very good!

I don't think this place is 'The Best' as others claim it to be but it's pretty darn close! My favourite japanese joint for a bite is still the little place down the block (towards denman) but in terms of comfort and service I give them a big thumbs up. Super nice servers and a very cozy booth compared to the loud servers and rock hard park benches at the other place, what would you prefer? The cocktail list is very original and delicious to boot! Quality of food was decent, some dishes weren't very impressive but not terrible either, tried their pasta and stone rice bowl which was pretty darn good. Probably will come here back and forth with my old frequent dining spot, pretty hard to pull me away from my regular but ebisu just might do it.
