Biercraft Tap and Tapas Bar1191 Commercial Drive, Vancouver
Small plates
Submitted Wednesday, October 10, 2007 - 5:57pm [Dine in]

Stellas is great for a lively atmosphere, and it's of course in a great spot on the Drive. The servers are all lovely and great at what they do. The food however... don't get me wrong, it's nice, quite inventive, well done, tasty, but expensive for what you get. I normally have the mussels which are an ok deal. I'm the type of person who would rather have a smaller plate of nicer food than leave a restaurant feeling sick to bursting, but Stellas take the wee.

The last time I was there I hadn't been in a while and ordered a couple of tapas plates. I inhaled them and was left $20 down, and still really hungry. Lovely food, but not cheap, and pretty small.

The person that prices the menu should remember that this is a pub that does nice food, not a fine dinning restaurant.

Pricey & Underwhelming
Submitted Wednesday, October 10, 2007 - 5:41pm [Dine in]

We decided to try out the stone grill after wanting to for ages. All looked very healthy and deliscious just the sort of food we love. The service was excellent, friendly and informative. When the food arrived it just seemed.....ordinary. I knew there was going to be no marinade, no sauce etc...but it just seemed to lack lustre. The veg were lovely, but all in all I was left feeling we had spent a lot of money on something very underwhelming.

The view was amazing, can't beat it. The crowd was very varied, and the place seemed to lack atmosphere.

Awesome night

2nd visit to the Charlatan, and after reading so many dissapointing reviews I thought perhaps we just got lucky on the first visit. However, again i was really impressed with the menu, just a bit different from the usual nachos and wings (which are available if you want). Service, yes is fairly relaxed, but we weren't in a rush so it was all good. We had goats cheese with balsamic & hazelnuts, halibut cakes, and the mixed fries. Also the venison. All very very tasty, great presentation and totally affordable. Great little nooks to hide in if you want some privacy but equally a great space if you're in a big group. Wherever you are you can do lots of people watching. All the servers were really friendly, if not the most efficient, but certainly helpful and smiley. Looking forward to my next visit.
