Nick's Spaghetti House631 Commercial Drive, Vancouver
I can't believe my eyes
Submitted Friday, November 30, 2007 - 12:15pm [Dine in]

I have read the following reviews, I have to say I am very surprised. First of all, authentic? Yeah right! This is not Italian food. Surprising, considering they are Italian.

I visited Nick's a long time ago & will never return. I had the Veal Parmesan with Spaghetti. Yes, there portions are quite large but, what good is that if the food is terrible? I cut into my Veal only to have a substantial amount of oil spewed into my face (I am very serious, although I'm sure I am not the only one this has happened too). The Spaghetti was overcooked & my plate was swimming in pasta water.

The owners should be ashamed of themselves. Given the longevity of this establishment, I imagine the food was once good. It seems they have lost the love for preparing a good Italian meal. Could care less about the food they serve to non-Italians (seems they don't know the difference). The ambience is definately of Italian descent. Service, ok.

I know it's not easy to maintain a restaurant in Vancouver but, I would rather sell than serve bad food. Meanwhile, I will stay home and cook my own authentic Italian meals, since I have yet to find a decent Italian restaurant in Vancouver. I have been told by many, that Marcello's is the best pizza in Vancouver. Having tried, not even close. If their the best, I rather not go anywhere else only to be disappointed.

Find the love Nick or go home!

Hey, it's their place!

I have to say I agree with the previous reviewer. Too many people seem to think when they walk into a business they have full run of it. Sorry folks, you are wrong! Calabria Bar has been around for a long time with good reason.

People on Commercial Dr seem to think they can walk into a restaurant bringing their own food and/or drinks. Again, you are wrong. Yes, these establishments are here to cater to the public, providing good food, drink, & service, but at the end of the day each and everyone of these places are a business. Businesses are here to make money. I wish everyone will remember that the next time they enter one of these establishments with coffee/tea, etc... in tow. Also, these establishments provide tables & chairs outside for their paying customers. Not for you to grab a slice of pizza from across the street and sit at, while you are waiting for the bus. To top it all off, leaving your mess when your bus arrives! One more thing, you need to use their bathroom, purchase a bottle water at the very least. After all, they are the ones supplying you the water, toilet paper, paper towel, etc... Have some class people!

Here is a good way of looking at the situation. It's like entering someones home. It's their home, you respect it while you are visiting!

We Love You Stormin' Norman's
Submitted Thursday, July 5, 2007 - 9:53pm [Dine in]

It's always nice to get your post removed when you wish to say goodbye to a wonderful restaurant. I'm sorry...I thought this forum was for the public.

Anyways, I will try again. I went to Stormin' Norman's Spirit Grill this weekend; I was shocked to see that it was closed. I love this burger joint, as well as all my friends. There was a sign on the door thanking all their customers that enjoyed and appreciated their food and service. I thought this was very thoughtful of them. So much for my desire for a great burger.

I went down to Wreck Beach yesterday and had a chat with Normand. They sold the business. Very tired, he said. Filled me in on the nonsense of running this gem. Honestly, I don't blame them. They feel bad for everyone who loved the place, they will miss all of their loyal customers but, it's time to move on. It's not over; eventually he will be back and in a better location.

We want to thank Normand, Queen Minoune, and all the staff at Stormin' Norman's Spirit Grill. You were fantastic, all around. I speak for all that loved the place and you will be sorely missed. We will patiently wait for your next place.

Much love

Nice room, it was very inviting. Great Tapas, great selection of import bottle beer, great atmosphere. Service was decent. Worth a repeat visit. Downside, I wanted to order take-out and apparently this is not possible. Too bad.
