Fatburger1101 Denman St., Vancouver

I first tried Fatburger in Las Vegas a few years ago and was truely impressed. So I was pretty eagar to try it again when this location opened. I've been twice now, since I figured I'd give it some time in case the staff were still learning when it first opened. Unfortunately both visits were very disappointing and I don't plan on giving it another try for some time.

The food isn't really that bad, but it's not worth what they're charging. I'd much rather go to Vera's or even Wendy's.

Friendly atmosphere

We weren't quite sure what to order so the owner suggested a couple of dishes, which turned out to be superb. I wish that I could say what they were but I can't remember off the top of my head.

The price was reasonable for what we got and I found that I really savored the food. We figured that it was probably made in advance and reheated when ordered, since we didn't really see a lot of cooking being done and the chef/owner spent most of his time in the dining area chatting with people and singing. Not that I'm complaining though, since the food was excellent and typically it just means the food is that much more flavourful since it's been marinating!

The night that we went there was a woman singing and the atmosphere was pretty fun and laid back. I will definitely be going again and plan to try some different dishes.

Amorosa Pasta House7874 Edmonds St., Burnaby
One of my favorites
Submitted Sunday, March 11, 2007 - 2:37pm [Dine in]

I've never been dissapointed going to Amorosa. The large dishes are very generous portions and I typically have about half left over to take home. The pasta always tastes like it was made earlier that day too. Whether it actually is or not, I'm not actually sure.

It's usually pretty busy so I typically phone ahead and make reservations. They're pretty bad at getting people seated, so having a reservation typically helps. I'd have to say that their seating has got to be their biggest fault. There's not a lot of space near the door and it get cramped pretty quick. Which would seem like a pretty good reason to get people to a table quickly and start serving them drinks. Instead they don't seem to acknoledge that people are waiting and you almost have to flag somebody down to get seated in under 10 minutes. I've actually seen people wait to speak to a server, just to tell them that they were sick of waiting and were going elsewhere. Once you're at a table though service is fine.

Logistics aside, the food has always been excellent. I gave it a 4 since I've always been very happy with everything that I've ordered, but I still think that they could improve on their tomato sauces. The cream sauces are always amazing, but I think the tomato sauces are sometimes a bit watery and could richer in flavour. For appies we typically get some calamari which is good (I've had better, but it's still good) and some cheesy garlic bread. Both the complimentary bread and the garlic bread always taste fresh.

Wouldn't get sizzlers again
Submitted Sunday, March 11, 2007 - 1:17pm [Dine in]

To start I didn't realize until writing this review that 2 was decent, because I sort of expected to give it a 3. I would probably give this restaurant another try if I lived closer, but I wouldn't get a sizzler again.

The place was busy and they were actually turning people away since they had all the tables reserved ahead of time... which seems like a pretty good sign. I think as mentioned before the interior is interesting since it's full of huge Bollywood photos.

The food was okay. The chicken stuffed roti that we had as an appetizer was very good. Although the flattened baby potatoes with yogurt and chutney wasn't quite as impressive. Rather than getting the usual Indian type entrees with rice and nann, we decided to try the sizzlers since they sounded different and were suggested by previous reviewers.

The sizzlers are definitely different. I mean they come with fries and a slice of melted cheese on top. They were also pretty generous with the portions of meat, but it actually could have used some more rice. The dish was also far too salty for my tastes.

Anyway, if you're planning on trying this place you should probably call ahead and make reservations.
