Despite all the great reviews on this site, we ate here tonight for only the second time and were very disappointed.

We just had a quick snack so didn't try enough things to say everything is half done, but all three items we ordered were barely decent.

We had an order of nachos to share. The chips were stale tasting and the cheddar cheese shreds were not melted on at least half the chips. Even where the cheese was melted, it was barely so. This made it hard to eat all the olives, tomato chunks, jarred pickled jalapeno slices, red pepper and green onion pieces that kept falling off the chips. The plate was large (great size!) but the whole thing came with less than a 1/4 cup of a very good salsa and the same amount of sour cream.

My companion had a margarita for 5.00 which I will swear had no tequila in it at all. I had two sips from different parts of the slushy drink and nothing. It was like a slushy made from frozen limeade. He finished it but wasn't pleased.

I had a slice of their caramel pecan flan. It tasted like a slice of pecan pie from a grocery store bakery. It was hard and solid and cold with carmel sauce drizzled over the top before it was chilled. The flan layer was like a 1/2 inch of caramel fudge and that was topped with a sweet caramel pecan layer. It did not appear anything like the flans I've had in other Mexican restaurants or the ones I've made at home from Mexican recipes. Kudos for pretty presentation though - it came with a pomegranate reduction drizzled on the plate but that was spoiled by the 3 dabs of cheap (the kind that tastes vaguely of coconut oil) spray on whipped cream. After three bites I left it on the plate.

Service was friendly and they seemed concerned about my leaving 3/4 of the flan but we were in a real hurry so I didn't address any of the food issues with the staff. My impression was that they would have tried to help but we just didn't have time, and were under some stress so didn't really want to discuss our disappointment. Perhaps if we had told them they would have repaired everything. Except the flan....I don't see what could have been done about that.

In short, we wont be back soon. I'm intrigued by the other raves the place got, though. And there were a number of other diners who all seemed happy so maybe we just were unlucky in our choices.

Our family group of 10 ate a belated Mother's Day lunch here this afternoon. We had a reservation for 2pm and were seated as soon as we arrived at about 2:02. We were given our choice of tables and the staff were cheerful. Water and a really good green tea were on the tables within minutes. We were hungry and ordered 13 different dishes plus 4 orders of the deep fried mini buns and managed to eat all but one little container to take home. Our appies (2 kinds of dumplings, lettuce wraps and the slightly sweet deep fried mini buns - yummy) came quickly and as we finished them the other dishes started to arrive. The main dishes arrived in nice order with some meat, some rice, some veggie, some noodles and then more of one or the other. Outstanding were the Masala Rice, the Dai Ching Chicken, the Chicken Lettuce Wraps and the Hot Chili Dumplings with Garlic (both Veggie and Chicken). The Manchurian Rice was good but more pedestrian that the Masala version. The Butter Chicken was very creamy but mild. The Dai Ching Chicken said it was three chilies hot and was the only thing we ordered above a mild and it was not hot. A nice warmth to it but we should not have listened to other reviewers who said that everything here is much hotter than other places that use the 1,2 and 3 chillies measures of heat. We really like spicy food but didn't find this very hot at all. Desserts for all of us were Deep Fried Bananas and/or Pineapple with ice cream and were very good. My sister-in-law and her hubby decided last night to try the place in advance of today's lunch and they were very happy to be back there again today. They said it was very busy last night between 8 and 10 pm. It was quiet this afternoon. The bill came to 158.00 for 10 very hungry adults (including three young men with huge appetites) without any alcohol. Great value for the money and good interesting food. We will go back next time we are in Surrey.
