I regularly purchase pizza at VLP. My wife and I love their Gourmet Vegetarian and my son is addicted to the Super Cheesy Pepperoni. The best part of the place is the nice couple who run it. Very friendly and accommodating. We like the dough balls they use in place of the centre plastic "table" meant to keep the middle of the pizza off the underside of the box. This is the old Bella Pizza and has maintained that companies menu (plus some new items).
Love this place! It's been our go-to Indian fix since it opened in its new location in Port Moody. I believe the same restaurant used to be in PoCo. The service and personal attention from the owner is always top notch. He is very sure that you are getting what you want and is happy to make recommendations. It was on his recommendation that we first tried their vegetable Manchurian. OMG these things are luscious! You gotta try these. The Vindaloo, Korma, and Tikka sauces are spot on. You can order to your spice comfort level and, in our experience, the chef is accurate in hitting this target. I really love the Palek Paneer dish; not the most appetizing looking dish but I do love the flavour. Value is good but you'll do a bit better with portion sizes if you order take out. This is especially true of the rice which I find the portion size a bit on the skimpy side. Caesars (drink) are a bit too sweet for my taste. Still, all in all, a great place that I would have no problem recommending to anyone.
Took my lovely wife out for her fiftyth birthday celebration. She picked Ouisi's for a change of pace. Drove in from Port Moody. Nice place, interesting ambiance. The food was pretty good. We had a couple of appy's. Liked the 'gator best! The main dishes were ok to great. Two people had jambalya which were definately mediocre. Two people had Po'boys which I think were good. I had the Chicken and Duck Sausage Gumbo, it was great! I would definately eat that again. So why the mediocre rating? My wife ordered a New Orleans Fizz to start out the night. She made quite the face when she took a sip and offered me a taste. Yuck! Tasted like soap! Passed it around and everyone agreed it was nasty. When the server checked in we mentioned the taste and sent the drink back. Turns out the simple syrup container had been filled with liquid soap! Blech! I understand this could happen to anyone but what I didn't like was no apology from management and I had to ask if they were comp-ing the drink. They were but nothing else was done. When I'm fed soap I would appreciate a little better treatment than that.
Not too much more necessary to say after the title. Food is ok, but nothing spectacular. Beautiful interior. Prices are way out of line to both the quality of the food and the neighborhood. Service was indifferent and somewhat rude. We won't be going back.
I was thrilled to spy the new incarnation of Charlies across the street and a block east of where they were last. We were there early and were among the first seated for the evening. The menu is quite a bit smaller, in terms of selection, but still hits all the high spots. The mole and the verde is as good as I ever remember. Things have gotten a bit more expensive with the large platters coming in at 18 bucks plus apiece. Somewhat more than I want to pay for a single meal. No shredded beef on the menu either, just ground. The only dissappointment of the evening was the service. A couple of very pretty young women who obviously hadn't had that much experience. Charlie was a bit flustered too I think. Only a single high chair available and hardly room for that either. Still good solid food though. We'll be back once they have a chance to iron out some of the kinks.
My second review of Anton's; certainly our favorite pasta place and one of our favorite restaurants. We always go out to eat on family birthdays to the birthday girl/boy's choice. Anton's is a common choice. We went last night for my son's birthday, great service, good food (if perhaps a bit past al dente), and the huge portions and good value we all love Anton's for. My beef? This is the third time I've been to the restaurant since they removed the option for debit card payment. Dumb ole me is surprised everytime. I hate using credit cards and never have that much cash so debit, to me, is the option of choice. I know Anton's had fraud problems and can see why they are leery but surely there are some security measures that could be taken to reduce or aleviate their concerns. I will, sadly, not be returning as I believe very much in voting with my wallet. Still I know I won't be missed given the large lineups. Too bad for me.
We love Mexican food and found Vallarta's by accident. Very happy accident! Huge portions and very authentic cooking. Lots of Hispanic folks eating there so they're doing something right. Service was a bit slow but the wait was well worth it. The kindly old Mexican lady doing the cooking is obviously not a line cook but you can taste the love. Highly recommend.
We really like Namoo Sushi. Unlike the other reviewer we find the service always speedy and friendly. The food is consistently good and often outstanding. We chose to take a pair of neophyte sushi eaters here for their first experience and they left very happy indeed. I would happily recommend Namoo Sushi to anyone.
After a long absense we decided to give Anducci's another try. We're Anton's people and have a hard time ordering pasta anywhere else. We were seated at a table near the front in the "pit." They had the lights set so low we couldn't read out menus. When the waitress came by and saw us using our cell phones to read the menus she told us she had been getting complaints all night. Later I saw her bring the manager over and point out the illumination (or lack thereof). The manager gave us a dismissive wave of her hand and walked away. Last time I darken their doorway. :) Oh, the food is ok but not up to Anton's standards by any means.
