Terracotta Modern Chinese52 Alexander Street, Vancouver
a wonderful surprise...

I am the offspring of a FOB Chinese foodie.

When it comes to asian cuisine I am one that usually likes the traditional.

Thanks to Groupon, we discovered a wonderful hidden surprise.

To start, an incredibly gorgeous young lady sat us at our table. Order for drinks within minutes of arrival and drinks within minutes of that.

The menu, there were some tough decisions... With recommendations from our server we completed our order.

For this dining experience, I brought my aunt who is FOB chinese, my father who is Canadian-Japanese and my bf, who is as white as white gets (he grew up in Saskatoon.)

We had:
Terracottta Spring Rolls - delish, the sweet-savory + a tropical twist
Chicken and Jellyfish - very good, comparable to the best Chinese restaurants I've been to.
Golden squid - light, crispy with a hint of asian spices
Salted fish fried rice - a hit, in every way
Black bean sablefish - perfectly cooked, full of flavour
Short rib sliders - so good we needed a second order
Bbq duck wraps - if these had come before we ordered more sliders we'd have 2 of these too.
Szechuan green beans - crisp, spicy, not too oily or salty
Buddha rolls - just like my fave veggie restaurants. The "so-gnaw" was lightly crisp on the outside, perfect marinaded mushrooms inside.
Tappioca happy ending - definitely a happy ending. Not as sweet as traditional tapioca pudding, which made it that much more pleasing. The phyllo-pastry on the outside added a rich- more sophistocated look at pudding. And the taking out of the red bean or lotus paste blobs you usually find was an excellent choice.

Overall A+... We will be back...

Totally "meh"...

The cafe is swank and fancy looking and totally disappointing. You expect so much going in.

Limit one gelato sample?!? How the heck are you supposed to figure out what you would like?

BTW... soy vanilla tastes like stale vanilla wafer cookies. I reiterate STALE...

The crabby employee was not pleasant.

Though the fancy cakes looked like a lot of work went into them, but it was a bit expensive for what it is.
