Another White Rock Disaster
Submitted Friday, May 18, 2007 - 1:59pm [Dine in]

What a horrible place. The staff are clearly clueless, and incapable of handling the volume of business. It too close to an hour to get our food, which was room temperature at best by the time we got it.
The food was dry, and overcooked as well. We complained, but werent going to get it remade, as that would likely result in another hour long wait.
We didnt even eat half of our meals, and when we pointed out the poor quality, not even so much as an apology.
When charged full price for barely touched food and no consideration from the staff at all, we left no tip, and hopefully they get the message.

I wish I had checked this place out on here before visiting, it is stupid to see a place that is so consistently bad continue to be busy, obviously they wont bother to spend time, effort or money to fix the problems, when they're super busy despite being terrible.

Another Bad Restaurant in a Great Location
Submitted Wednesday, April 25, 2007 - 12:20pm [Dine in]

Is it a rule that all the restaurants along this strip are terrible?
This is a big corporate restaurant and it was terrible. It isnt even mediocre, like most corporate restaurants. My steak was stupidly tough and gristly. Tasted cheap and old. The caesar salad was more dressing than lettuce. And calamari was just blander than bland, it tasted like flour and oil.
My friend had a prawn entree that was serverd luke warm, and rubbery.
Any attempt to get our waiters attempt to complain were to no avail. He showed up about the same moment we decided to give up.
Yeah its a waterfront spot, but so what? Its just not worth crappy food and service.

All Things Bad in This Hell Hole
Submitted Friday, April 6, 2007 - 1:09pm [Dine in]

We went here with another couple on a nice sunny day after walking around. It was pretty much full-and it was loud. They had a sax player playing amplified. It was impossible talk when he was playing, so insanely loud, and uncomfortable.
The service was horrendous!! It took over 20 minutes to get our first, and despite our wish to order more-our only, drink. It took over an hour to get our appetizers, and when never got mains as we had given up.
I really dont understand what these people are thinking with this restaurant. It was undeniable torture dining here. It will be a very long time before I give this restaurant another chance.

Second Visit Not as Good as First
Submitted Friday, April 6, 2007 - 12:56pm [Dine in]

A return visit was a little disappointing, the food was just OK, while on a previous visit it was delicious.

The mussels were overcooked, and rubbery, the salad i had was very oily and wilted, quite sad.

Also, the service dropped as well. Inattentive, and very disinterested. I think perhaps this restaurant is getting to comfortable with itself.

Hopefully they choose to fix these problems, but they appear to be quite busy, so they may not. Again, why would they spend the money to make a restaurant better when the customers come anyways.

Good Food, Cool Atmosphere, Sad Service
Submitted Thursday, March 22, 2007 - 2:59pm [Dine in]

This was an excellent experience into a cuisine type I have never enjoyed before. It seems very similar to greek food, to me anyways-but slightly different. We had the kebab platter for two. Great fun picking and nibbling. A good romantic feeling too.
We sat on the floor on cushions, which was different as well.
The server on the other hand, was hard to get, and often MIA. Our water glasses were dirty, and we pointed that out, but never got replacements.
It's a great enjoyment otherwise. So hopefully, this is a server to soon be replaced. I would love to try again, but not to be served by her.

Brunch Falls Flat
Submitted Saturday, March 10, 2007 - 1:07pm [Dine in]

Went for an early brunch at Milestones, and it was a bad experience from the start. It wasnt busy, yet we had to wait several minutes while our host found a table for us, there was only 2 of us.
When we were seated, our cutlery was dirty, both of ours! Apparently it was an imposition to ask for clean cutlery.
My benny came out hard when asked for runny. We were almost finished before we even saw our server again, no quality check or anything.
When we pointed out that the bennies were overcooked, not even an apology, just "oh". I dont expect them to do anything about it, but at least apologize!
I don't know what motivated us to try here for brunch, but definitely was a mistake. Whenever I go out for brunch, its to have fun. This was way too frustrating to be considered fun.

Nicest Place in Davie Village
Submitted Tuesday, March 6, 2007 - 3:29pm [Dine in]

I honestly think this is the nicest restaurant in the Village. It's ellegant, comfortable and cozy. Excellent pastas at a reasonable price too. I recently had the Osso Buco, which was excellent, the meat was fall off the bone tender, and very flavourful. I love osso buco, and have had it at other restaurants where is tough and bland.
My date had the chorizo pasta, which was nice and spicy, but not overly spicy.
The service is very attentive and friendly.
Nice little room, I would only like it if the seating was more comfortable, and the room a little quieter.

Great Pizza
Submitted Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 4:44pm [Dine in]

I've loved Martini's pizzas for about 15 years now. The whole wheat crust is the best. Tons of flavour, perfect texture.
I've never had a pizza that wasnt perfectly cooked. The ingredients are always fresh and flavourful.
Service can be a bit better, but easily forgiven for the quality of pizza. Much better than any of those chains.

Another Boring Box
Submitted Sunday, February 18, 2007 - 12:36pm [Dine in]

Well we were wondering around Yaletown for dinner the other night, and didnt know where to go. We saw Browns, and never heard of this place before, so lets give it a try.
It was quite busy, but clearly that doesnt mean a place is any good. I'm often confused how bad places can be so popular.
We waited about 20 minutes for a table, had a drink at the bar.
Sevice was slow, and very impersonal. If they just changed the sign on the door, I would think I was in a Cactus Club-it's no different except the name, and a smaller menu.
There isnt really anything on the menu that jumps out as interesting in any way. Just boring standards you see in every chain restaurant.
We had calamari, bland nothing special. I had a steak, again, it was over cooked, I order medium rare and got medium. The waiters really did not care how we did. They just followed the steps to get us out as quick as possible.
If you like Cactus Club, you will like Browns-its the same restaurant. Sadly, I hate Cactus Club, and I hate Browns

What a Dive!
Submitted Sunday, February 18, 2007 - 12:18pm [Dine in]

First off the place is very cluttered and dirty. Feels like a very low-end pub, which would be ok, if it had other redeeming qualities, it does not. They have this stupid service system, where no one is your server. We had 3 different people come and take our drink order, yet it still took another 15 minutes to get our drinks. Our food took even longer, for 2 burgers it took almost 1/2 hour.
The burgers were very dry, bland, and taste of a lot of filler, lots of breadcrumbs probably.
We never got a quality check, or anyone to offer us another drink. We ended up having to track someone down to pay our bill.
The place has no organization, or structure.

This is a place that will get you pissed off!

Nice room, So-So Food
Submitted Monday, February 12, 2007 - 3:27pm [Dine in]

Went here for the weekend, its a nice designed restaurant, with a great view. The food is just ok, comparable to places like earls.
The service staff is also comparable to earls. There is nothing special about the restaurant once you get past design.

Delicious Fare
Submitted Sunday, February 4, 2007 - 12:04pm [Dine in]

We made our visit here Sat night for Dine Out. The place was very busy, last weekend of Dine Out makes sens! The only challenge on the experience was the service. It wasnt bad, just they were slow, and I got the feeling the server was getting fed up.
We had the lobster and the tuna to start. Both exploding with flavour...the chef here obviously isnt afraid of seasoning, which I personally like as so many restaurants in Vancouver serve bland food. We both had the salmon which was absolutely stellar...I honestly have become quite bored with salmon in Vancouver, you get it everywhere and usually tastes the same everywhere you go, I was pleased to see someone do something different with it here.
We also both had the brownie. A scrumptious delight. Perfect comfort ending to a delicious meal.
Also, being a Saturday night it was crazy busy. I will return soon, but probably choose a quieter night. I'm sure the craziness caused to the service and the room was due mostly to the Dine Out madness. I look forward to experiencing this restaurant on a normal night.

One of the Best Dine Outs
Submitted Sunday, February 4, 2007 - 11:52am [Dine in]

We had the exact opposite experience as the previous poster. We Came here on Friday night and the place was full. We had to wait 5 minutes for our table, but I've had to wait over 1/2 hour at other places.
The servers were really friendly and actually got into the conversation with us and was joking with us. They were very attentive, and our drink glasses were never empty.
The food we had was delicious. We had the Prawns and Fondue for starters. The prawns were very clean and simple, taste the prawns and the mandarin oranges that came with them. The fondue was very rich and cheesey.
I had the sirloin steak with blue cheese. It had just the right amount of cheese, you can taste the flavour, but it didnt over power the steak. My friend had the catfish, which I tried a bit of. I prefered my steak, but the catfish flavour, like the prawns, was very clean and fresh.
We both had the ganache with Jagermeister gelato for dessert, it was amazingly decadent and rich, but the jagermeister gelato refreshed the palate.
I think I would prefer the restaurant on a quieter night. I know it was a Friday night during dine out. We will definitely return, might choose a weekday instead next time.

What a Rip Off!
Submitted Wednesday, January 31, 2007 - 10:27am [Dine in]

I've heard so much raves about this place as an amazing steak house. We went here expecting amazing, flavourful steak. It was not. It was bland, flavourless, and dry. The quality of the meat was fine, they just do absolutely nothing with it.
Honestly, if you're a steak house if there is one thing you should do well is steak. The service is decent, but nothing special. The room is very nice, and I guess that's what you're paying for when you go here. I recommend avoiding this place altogether.

Submitted Friday, January 12, 2007 - 5:07pm [Dine in]

This is a wonderful seedy little dive. There is nothing about each of the individual elements of this places that stands out as great. The food is barely good, but its not about the food so much. The place is kitchy. Its great fun griping about the food you end up getting with your buddies.
This is one of those, its so bad its good scenarious. I would never go here for dinner. But for a fun time at lunch, this is a blast. It falls into the category of the Elbow Room, but this is more alternative and edgy.

It's all about hype!
Submitted Tuesday, January 9, 2007 - 1:10pm [Dine in]

I've always heard about Il Giardino, and it's owner Umberto. For years and years. Last week I finally decided to give it a try. It was a Tuesday night, and they were full-the hype and PR obviously brings the customers in.
The service was not very good. When we were waiting to get more drinks, we could actually see our waiter outside having a smoke!!
I had the carbonara pasta which was both bland and salty at the same time. Also the pasta was overcooked, totally unacceptable in an Italian restaurant!
My husband had the Pesto, which he said same thing, bland and salty.
The room looks authentic Italian, but quite dingy, in need of a clean up!
When all said and done for dinner for the two of us, with tax and tip it came to about $120. About double what I would expect to pay in a little Italian trattoria.
Obviously they trade on the name, not the quality.
