If not for the view....
Submitted Sunday, March 25, 2012 - 1:53am [Dine in]

Saturday 6pm
No reservations
Table for 2 adults and one toddler
Seated in the ground floor area of the restaurant

We were not asked by the host which part of the restaurant we wanted to be in.
After inquiring we were informed there was a wedding party upstairs.
My wife had the ceasar salad and the seafood linguine.
I had the duck confit salad and the NY steak.
Ceasar was alright. Linguine was ok.
Duck was oversalted.
Seasonal vegetables came with my steak. All I received was 1/4 of a red bell pepper and a stalk of brocolli with 4 florets.
We also had one iced tea and a sorbetto.
Total of bill for food was $95.00.
Considering the service, location, type of dishes ordered and ambiance we were just paying for the view.
The value for food just not there.

Banana eating out
Submitted Sunday, November 6, 2011 - 3:44am [Dine in]

I am a banana.

I had dinner with my wife in the month of September on a weekend.

The service of the staff was very attentive. We were seated near a large party on the upper level and seeing our discomfort with the seating arrangements the staff moved us further away from the party.

I had the vine ripened tomatoe and cheese salad and rib eye steak.
My wife had the oysters rockefeller and the trio of fish.
We both agreed the dinner only had one dissapointment which was the fish.
All three types of fish was over cooked. Halibut, salmon and ling cod.
We both also agreed the lobster infused olive oil for bread dipping was excellent.

We would have loved to stay and have dessert as well but the volume of the restaurant was a big turn off for further dining.

Pasta me Pasta....
Submitted Thursday, April 16, 2009 - 11:16pm [Dine in]

I am a Banana. I am 240lbs.

Hearing about this legendary place for so many years has had me place this
restaurant on my "must go to" list before I die.

First off... the phone number for this listing is incorrect!!! It is 604-299-6636.

Second....be prepared to wait!!!! It is obvious from all the reviews that this is
the norm for this restaurant and patrons should not be surprised or annoyed
about this fact.

Third.....the restaurant has a standing policy if your party is NOT completely
there to be seated right away the you will NOT be given a table. If you have
a party of 10 and only 9 people are there they will make an exception but if
you are a party of 10 and only 7 or 8 are there you will have to wait until your
party is complete.

All pasta dishes are $14.95, other priced dishes are marked on the menu.

You have many choices of sauces to choose from. The sauces are divided
into 4 sections (red, white, clear, seafood) and within each section there are
6-9 different types of dishes.

Risotto is available. 3 types of desserts (cheesecake, tiramisu, i can't
remember the 3rd). Good variety of wine choices.

We were a party of 8 adults and 2 children.
We were a full party at 7pm and seated within 15 minutes.
We ordered the 3 appetizers. One soup. 5 different pasta dishes. One
cheesecake for the kids.
The pasta portions are huge for one person. Almost anything can be added
to the dish if you have a special hankering for something (for a nominal fee).

I gave the food only a 3 because I am of the opinion that we are all pasta
"chefs". We all have a certain way that we like our pasta and sauces. So if
you have a certan way you like your pasta let the server know.

Everyone in our group liked the dishes.
Everyone said they would go back and eat there again.

And I think I saw Anton!!!! ;)

Banana in water....
Submitted Monday, July 28, 2008 - 4:07am [Dine in]

I am a banana. I am 240lbs.

My date and I wandered Yaletown looking for a restaurant to have a pleasant meal.
We choose Coast from the look of the dishes on the tables located at the patio.

We choose to sit out on the patio. The music was not loud. The interior of the restaurant has clean lines and is what one would expect from a westcoast restaurant.

The servers were attentive throughout our meal and we were never lacking in anything we wanted.

We ordered 2 drinks, the appetizer starter for 2, and the arctic char. This was enough to fill me and my date. While I wanted to have some dessert I could not eat anymore. The food was prepared beautifully and cooked correctly.
The cost of the meal was high but worth it.

We will go again.

A patient waiter....
Submitted Tuesday, July 22, 2008 - 5:53am [Dine in]

I am a banana.

I don't think I can anything to to my review that has not been said by the others. And the others are quite true in their reviews.

I can add that the waiter was quite patient with my indecision on what to choose for dinner. His recommendations were quite helpful and good choices. Trust the staff. And enjoy the food.

Modelling waitresses or waitresses that model?
Submitted Tuesday, July 22, 2008 - 5:29am [Dine in]

I am a banana.

I went to this restaurant on a Friday night.

I understand the concept behind the food and the restaurant.
But I believe it falls short on both parts.

At the time we arrived the restaurant was not full. But you would not think that by the amount of noise.
The interior is mostly designed with hard surfaces which reflect and amplify noise. So if you are expecting to have a quiet romantic dinner it will be impossible. To me the seating arrangements are ill designed and crowded.
We were seated promptly. The waitresses were quite nice and they would have been better looking if they smiled more. The staff requires at least a busboy to clear tables so the waitresses can concentrate on the patrons.
The food is good and priced correctly if you are hungry. But don't expect any gastronomic revelations, after all it is a chinese restaurant.

Is the value really there?....
Submitted Tuesday, July 22, 2008 - 4:14am [Dine in]

Went for lunch on a Thursday.
The BP interior was typical, what you would expect from any other BP.
The wait staff was attentive and polite.
The food needs work though. I had the wings and Jack Daniels ribber.
While both dishes did arrive promptly they certainly not anything to write home about. For $16.00 I expected more ribs. I also ordered the apple crisp. It was really bad. The dessert was harshly undercooked.
Like the other review I would rather have the same dish from either the Keg or Earls.

Went on July 1.

Did not have a problem getting a table, but the patio was full.

Staff was polite and attentive. Food was very tasty. The only thing I had a problem with was the sorbet. It seemed a bit dry for my taste.

Everything was what I expected from a restaurant like this.
No surprises bad or good.

Easy to recommend and I would go again.

A hotpot is a hotpot
Submitted Monday, July 7, 2008 - 10:56pm [Dine in]

I am a banana. I do know hotpots.

This is a Taiwan restaurant. We went on a Sunday evening. Ate from 7:30 to 10:30pm.

We were greeted promptly and asked to sit at the bar. The bar takes up about 1/3 of the seating area and seats about 25. The rest of the seating consists of 6-7 tables that only seat 4 people per table. North American pop music was playing softly. About 6 seats at the bar were being used.
Looking around I noticed framed photos of european countries on all the walls which did not make sense.
When seated we were served tea and asked to look over the menu which were our placemats. The waitresses were very helpful in answering our questions in english, mandarin, cantonese, and taiwanese.

Basically the choices are simple. Choose your soup base. Choose your main pot combo. The following things are included in your meal. You will be asked whether you want rice, udon, or rice vermicelli. You will also be asked what drink you would like with your meal. Vegetables and various fish cakes also come with the meal.
Choose any additional side orders you would like if you think there is not enough food. I am 240 pounds and I was full with just the seafood and meat (your choice of meat) main pot combo. My date had the fresh fish and meat.
The food was well cut and well presented which was 45% of the meal to me.
Overall a pretty good meal and time.
Yes I would recommend and go again.
