Taste Of Punjab, A10009 136A Street, Surrey
The Best Indian Restaurant
Submitted Thursday, August 30, 2007 - 6:41pm [Dine in]

Taste of Punjab is the best restaurant for north Indian food in Surrey. It wins in all departments.
-Taste wise, this has to come closest to the food actually served in Punjab. (Except the dal makhni which is nowhere close to what it is suposed to be)
-The food is priced right and the quantities are generous.
-You get free rice with every entree and papadoms if you order a beer. -The booths are tall enough for privacy.
-Each time the owner personally comes to ask if everything is to our liking.

So Taste of Punjab offers an unbeatable combination of value, taste and ambiance. The only minus point is the location. That could have been better.

Please note that we are vegatarian so the comments about the food apply only to veg dishes but I feel it is safe to assume that the meat would be as good looking at the popularity despite a bad location!

As everyone has mentioned, the new decor is a huge improvement over the original. We used to be a fan of their buffet where the dishes were very authentic although loaded with oil. The lunch special is their replacement for the buffet. We tried it twice. The first time we were really impressed. The 3 dishes that come with the special were really good and the quantity was just sufficient to leave you full and not loaded! Excited by that experience we paid another visit. This time around, the food was cold and stale. Seemed like we had come early and they were still trying to recycle food from yesterday. Straight from the fridge after a brief stint in a microwave. Only the naan was fresh. Perhaps the trick is to go little late for lunch so that they are done with the leftovers!
The service also leaves much to be desired. The interiors are so well done they give you a feel of a classy restaurant but the service does not match up. Mostly the server is a part time person or someone doing this till he can find something better and seems least interested and has a "Its my job so i'm doing it" air.
