Savoury Indian Dinner with Great Service
Submitted Saturday, February 19, 2011 - 1:11pm [Dine in]

This restaurant was recommended by one or our girlfriends and it was a very pleasant surprise. Ambiance was truly great - the decor was nice although a tad dark inside. Parking at the back was minimal, however street parking was ample.

The 4 of us decided to share our meals together Asian Style. We had a bottle of red wine, 2 appetizers which included the Dine Out award winner Karawari Prawns - very savoury with a nice crunchy coating it had a good blend of spices and a Potato Chick Peas with Salad dish. Both were yummy and enough for all us. The Papadaam basket with Chutney was replenished several times which we all loved. It tasted like a well seasoned floury chip and our server brought us a piece that was raw so that we could see what it looked like before it was cooked.

Our Main courses consisted of the Chicken Chettinad, Peshawari Rack of Lamb and the Tikka Halibut all were very good and tasty. I thought the spices were very good and not over powering. Our server asked if we wanted our meals to be Mild, Medium or Spicy, we chose Medium - abosolutely perfect although we could have gone spicier. We also had the Basil and Garlic Naan along with the Saffron and Peas Pulao rice dish.
The Naan was very good while the rice dish was not over the top. We all loved the Main Courses and my favourite of the 3 was the Chicken Chettinad - a must try.

Service was top notch from the moment we entered the restaurant. Our server was very attentative, our water glasses were filled frequently and our wine glasses topped off. She even made a fresh pot of decaffinated coffee for us - wonderful !!!

Our meal was very well worth it and I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you crave Indian food and want good service.

Great Seafood
Submitted Sunday, August 29, 2010 - 10:16am [Dine in]

Went out for a reunion dinner with 9 high school buddies. We had dinner reservations for a Friday night - very busy place. As we were placed next to the bar and the door - it was very loud. Too many older singles trying too hard by the bar provided us 50 somethings with great entertainment. Loved the round table concept which provided us the easy conversation.

Food was absolutely wonderful - had the Seafood Tower for as an appetizer - delicious !!! Followed by the Miso Black Cod which was perfect. The portions were not large, however adequate. The service was excellent and our food server knew all his dishes and described them perfectly. No one at our table did not enjoy their meal. Dessert was awesome and presentation of each dish was artistically done.

Dinner is more on the pricey side - appetizer, main course, 1 glass of red wine, dessert and coffee was $110.00 including tip and of course the HST.

Good Food, Good Service, Great Price
Submitted Saturday, June 19, 2010 - 7:49pm [Dine in]

We came here for dinner with our parents and kids on a Saturday night. Food was great - the Sashimi was fresh and the Maki rolls were very good with the seaweed still crunchy. Tempura was still hot. My son had udon noodles and the texture was perfect, he loved the fact they gave him the chili sprinkles on the side.

Service was very good and the waitresses brought both Tea and Water for all of us. The Sushi Chef noticed whenever we needed service and the waitresses were very attentive.

The ambiance was mediocre, but then this is also not a high priced restaurant - The facility was clean and the dishes were clean :)

This is a great place for fast food, families and value. I would definitely recommend this restaurant - we were in and out within 1.5 hours. The line up was out the door when we left at 7:45 pm.

Best Shanghainese Dim Sum Ever
Submitted Sunday, May 30, 2010 - 11:11am [Dine in]

I must admit this is one of the best Shanghainese Dim Sum restaurants that I have been to. Absolutely love the Shao Loong Bao, the skin is thin and the filling is very juicy and not too salty. They have a Lucky Family Hot Pot which is a great description for Chinese comfort food - delicious (must be shared by at least 6-8 people). Another must try is the Beijing Style Meatcake a favourite for the kids. The value is excellent and the food beats out The Shanghai River Restaurant in Richmond, however the service and ambiance does not of course because after all this is a more of a neighbourhood restaurant.
They need more help in the dining area - the 3 servers are just worked way too hard. Great place for the food and value - do not come if you are on a strict time schedule or if you are looking for ambiance. The Chinese pastry chef makes the Dim Sum fresh at the corner station in the back. I would recommend this restaurant most definitely for the food.

Un FORTUNATE Experience - At a Negative 5 Star Restaurant
Submitted Saturday, May 29, 2010 - 10:49am [Dine in]

My Co-workers and I decided to have Dim Sum at this restaurant on Friday afternoon for lunch. We knew it would be busy, so we made reservations for 1:00pm for a party of 7 people. We arrived at 1:00 pm and was greeted by people lined up outside the restaurant. As we had reservations we proceeded to the reception desk - the hostess gave us a numbered card, even after we told her we had reservations. She told us it would be really fast because the next table should be ours. We waited for 15 minutes and watched in amazement that she permitted all her friends and supposedly regular clients to enter without waiting. As 30minutes passed we spoke to a Captain who told us it would not be much longer. At this point we looked around and noticed that everyone else that had been lining up for a table was already inside eating their food.
By now we were famished and decided to order take out Dim Sum to eat in our offices because we had to get back to work. To our amazement after we ordered our food a table was ready and in fact there were 4 empty tables available. It was too late to sit down to order and eat our food in 15 minutes to get back to work.
The cashier who took my order and charged me an astronomical price was extremely rude and yelled at me to wait outside. I waited for another 35 minutes to get our food - which was horrible - cold, no soy sauce for our rice rolls, no condiments, no apologies.
This restaurant clearly wants to advertise that they are a 5 Star Restaurant - but they most definitely have a NEGATIVE 5 Star rating for service. The food was not great either - we have had much, much better. After all if we waited this long, the food should have been hot and not cold.
They should never have taken a reservation if they could not accomodate their clientele and they should not lie about how long we need to wait for a table - We could have gone somewhere else.
Very pricey place for Horrendous, Rude Service with CRAPPY Food - the rice skin on the HAR GOW was hard !!!
If you want good Dim Sum and service - try Red Star on South Granville (MISFORTUNE House) could learn a lesson or 2 from them.
