Good Food, Bad Service
Submitted Tuesday, September 30, 2008 - 8:03pm [Dine in]

I have been coming to Sitar on and off for quite a few years now. I go back for the food and not the service! I always brace myself for grumpy, indifferent waiters. Once in awhile the service is good and I am always surprised! But the last visit has made me rethink my patronage.
I saw a dead cockroach in the ladies bathroom, and when the waiter brought our dinner plates to the table he picked a crusty bit off the plate! Why not just go get a clean plate? But I noticed that the side plates on the table had some crusty bits on them as well. So I was willing to overlook the bad service, in exchange for yummy butter chicken. But I can't get over cockroaches and someone standing next to me and picking dried food off a plate I am suppose to eat from! Oh well, there are lots of other Indian restaurants in town.

Watered down drinks!

I went with a party of 8 on a Saturday night. We all enjoyed the ambiance and music. The place is really busy and it had a good vibe to it. But our martinis and mixed drinks were very weak. Our group stuck to beer and wine after 4 or 5 weak martinis. The service was a bit slow but I assume its because there was a large group of 30 or so. The food was also pretty bad. We orderd a few standard appies. Nachos and yam fries. The nachos barely had any cheese (a pet peeve of mine!) and for $13-14 there should be a bit more! and the yam fries tasted like the mini donuts at the PNE. They where covered in a cinnamon, sugar mixture. Odd. Overall the place is good for bottled drinks and the music!

Century Restaurant & Bar432 Richards Street, Vancouver

I had heard of this restaurant mentioned by a couple of people, who had gone to the bar upstairs. They liked it and when it was suggested we try out the restaurant I was looking forward to it. It was a Friday night and the reservation was for 7pm. The tables were empty, though the bar was packed with what looked like an afterwork crowd. The place was pretty much dead by 9pm.
As we were seated I noticed that the chair was completely stained. Our party was later moved to the next booth as our table was really wobbly. The seating at the new table also had a huge stain as well. Pretty gross. For an establishment like this, you would think they would do somehthing about that.
The food was very mediocre. We had caeser salads, calamari and tacos. Perhaps we ordered the wrong items as we didn't really enjoy any of it. the caesar salad had the cheap parmesan and boxed croutons, and the calamari was frozen rings and soggy. Even chain restaurants like Milestones and Earls makes more of an effort with pretty standard items like that. The only good thing were the drinks. If I ever did come back it would be for drinks and not the food or stained furniture!
