Ponder here no more..

My third attempt to see if this place is worthy of my dollar.
My third disappointment.
OK, the first time was years ago when they first opened.
Then I was in there just after Christmas this year but it was lame.
I didn't really blame them, we went in late. close to closing and it was crappy all over the drive.
But my most recent visit was pure disappointment.
The tapas in MHO are unauthentic.
The service was equally slow considering there were not allot of people here and the place is small.
While 10$ is not allot for a tapas item, it's certainly not "cheap" either so I did expect
a little more value.

Nice Place - Good People
Submitted Wednesday, April 27, 2011 - 11:08pm [Dine in]

After wandering the neighborhood, I turned in at LaRocca for a late lunch. The room is high-ceilinged and airy, with abundant light from windows at the front. I sat by the window and checked out the interesting variety of people walking the Drive.

I wanted to try a wine from the Okanagan, and the agreeable waitress offered me a sample, but it was too sweet. On her recommendation, I drank an italian one that was well-matched to my pasta entree.

I chose the penne. It was an unusual flavor combination. It was also more than I could eat.

I wished I had a dining companion to bug into sharring and ordering something else we could have shared, but at this point a doggy bag would have to do.

I like this place. Good food and good people. Simple as that.

Truley a shame

Now this is my very first review of not just this place, but any place in Vancouver and this world.
No kidding. I was inspired by my experience at Bouzyos Greek Taverna to join Dine Here and become a food critic.

This place is a Commercial Drive staple. I never understood why. I never saw the reason why they were in business for so long, and to that my once a year visit in hopes of possibly seeing a change goes unrewarded.

Rumor has it that a new Chef was there. Rumor had it that a new menu was in place. The web-site clearly makes reference to this. So, with this I now venture for my annual test of the only Greek restaurant on Commercial Drive.

My experience was mixed.
First - in terms of the menu, For appearance sake - what a crock of a menu. Can't make out a single thing. Syllablized Greek wording? This is the best this Chef could come up with? I am not a real food critic. Just a guy who takes his wife out to a place a few times a month. My point is - why make it so complicated? I just want to read the menu, make a decision and move on. I don't want to spend 15min of my time trying to decipher the language.

Now. for the harshness I've projected to the Chef, now I'll soften up. The food was fine. Ok, not the best. Certainly not overly memorable, but it was enjoyed. There was nothing that we ordered that we didn't finish and nothing that we regretted. To this I say good job.

Why will I never go back? No value. When you apply the cost of our dinner to the food and factor in the low professional service you have a recipe for a wasted entertainment dollar. Yeah, I haven't even touched on the service as there are so many things off here I'm not sure that I'm allowed to post such a large review here.

Truly a shame is exactly how we felt here. We thought it was going to be different.
