Nice Place meets mediocrity

When bf and I walked in - wow - really nice place and liked what they've done with the decor. We ordered sashimi, nigiri, variety of rolls (negitoro, spicy scallop) along with prawn tempura. My real complaint was the tempura - it literally was batter, show me the prawn, show - me - the - prawn! Didn't care for the roll either as it was mostly surrounded by rice with very little filling.

It really looks like they are trying to compete with the place down the street by offering large portions. In all honesty, I'm at a point where I want quality over quantity. Until they start to improve the quality of the food, I would probably not return unless we are in the area as I don't enjoy paying for mostly rice.

Can you say KARAOKE!!!!!!! I love this place, especially their karaoke lounge. First things first, the food, ordered the standard fare (sashimi, sushi, rolls, etc...), pretty solid and for the price would say that this is one of the best places to go to in Vancouver.

Service - the service here is great. I've been to a lot of Japanese places and this one certainly rates high in my book.

Value - again, for the quality and quantity you get - the value here is excellent.

Ambiance - to tell you the truth, I loved the wasabi green walls - it's actually kind of refreshing to come to a place where you can actually see your food while you eat. The presentation of their rolls (crazy dragon) is amazing!

Now, the karaoke room - there was a bunch of us and after dinner, we sang to our hearts content. It's quite amazing (after some drinks) how well we were singing. I think the waitresses thought we were nuts - however, they seemed to enjoy our singing (at least I would like to think so)!

This was a great dinner and a great night and will definately be back again.

Thanks Toyo!!!!!! Donna K.
