Good sushi. Good Value
Submitted Saturday, January 24, 2009 - 5:58pm [Dine in]

I go to Simply Delicious about three times a month. The menu is very good value and very varied - sushi, Pho, robata, french fries, whatever you want.

The bento boxes are an excellent deal and you get lots of choices to make your own combos. There are lots of little dishes so it's fun to order a lot and share as a group. The sushi is always fresh and the rice prepared correctly.

Yes, the service is erratic. I'm convinced that the owner only hires extremely new Canadians who have never worked in a restaurant before - so don't be so hard on them. I tip decently and have tried to make a connection with a few of the wait staff so I will often get attention before someone else. Being a regular pays off sometimes.

It was an Argentinian steak house a very long time ago and the decor still reflects it. But the booths are big and comfy, the menu selection wide and the beer is cheap!

They did just raise their prices a little but it's still cheap. It used to be that my sister, my niece and myself would have our fill of sushi, sunomono, and tempura plus three beers and a diet coke for $24 but now it's a whopping $27. Where else in Vancouver can you eat a huge meal with a little bit of booze for $27?

Sunset Grill2204 York Avenue, Vancouver
Yummy Benny!

I've never had dinner at the Sunset Grill but I sure have had a lot of breakfasts there. The hollandaise is home made and very tasty. I also like that they serve a half benny there (only one muffin, one egg). I recommend the Hobbit Benny. It is very tasty - back bacon and mounds of mushrooms! There is also traditional plus several other types.

Sure it's a pub so you can't expect a lot from the decor but the wait staff are always friendly.

Grotty Pub, Great Burgers, Great Bennys

Want a big, fat, homemade patty with all the works? Well then go to the Penny Lane. I live a stones throw away and would never make this pub my regular local but when I have a burger craving or a eggs benny craving that's where I go.

Sure the decor is 80's sports pub and has seen better days and there is the table of regulars alway sitting by the kitchen, but the burger is worth the lack of ambiance. The service is usually pretty good and the wait staff accomadating to special requests.

The Works burger is a big, homemade style burger on a pretty good bun with bacon, mushrooms, cheese, lettuce, onion and tomato. It's a five napkin burger that you usually end up wearing. Good and juicy. The fries are just pub fries but they are always fresh, hot and tasty and never limp or undercooked.

On a Sunday morning I have sat in a booth right after 11:00 am when the pub opens and watched the cook make the hollandaise. There aren't any fancy benny combinations but the original is just fine for me.
