Our Go-To Sushi Lunch Spot - Good Value
Submitted Wednesday, August 11, 2010 - 10:34pm [Dine in]

Momo Sushi is our go-to sushi lunch spot. Our work group comes here every week, sometimes twice a week. It's in Gastown and probably was an old 50s or 60s diner in a previous life. It's tiered with about 8 booths and a couple larger tables. The sushi chefs are up front but there's no sushi bar except at the back where you can only see the kitchen where the food is being cooked and the dishes being washed. The place gets crowded at lunch time so the secret is to get there early.

The food is Japanese comfort food. The Special Box A with California roll, tuna and salmon sushi, 3 piece Salmon and 3 piece Tuna sashimi, salad, rice, miso soup will set you back $6.95, which is a heck of a deal. Good value for your hard earned dollars. You can also have other bento boxes with tempura, the usual bento experience common to the hundreds of similar shops set up here in the Lower Mainland of Vancouver. Plus don buri and udon noodles dishes. All of them are good deals.

The service is ok. Actually for us, it's pretty good as the waitresses know us fairly well. They know who wants the water and who wants the tea. For the most part, they are very fast.

I like the place. It serves good comfort food, offers great value.
