Nice fish, good value, great service
Submitted Tuesday, September 8, 2009 - 11:48pm [Dine in]

Went here the other night for the first time, the restaurant was busy but the staff were cheerful and seated us quickly.

Ordered tempura, plus a selection of rolls and nigiri. The tempura was perfect, the rolls and nigiri were not quite as outstanding but still very good, especially considering the prices, $1-2 per piece for high quality nigiri is very good value.

A few pieces of our order got misplaced at some point, no big deal but when we mentioned this we were treated to a complimentary chef's special creation, which was wonderful.

Horrible food
Submitted Sunday, December 21, 2008 - 7:25pm [Dine in]

After 5 years in Vancouver I am still looking for a place that can make decent classic trashy Canadian-Chinese dishes, still no luck. Just ordered delivery from Timkee Kitchen, wishing I hadn't. The owners should not be in the restaurant industry.

Chicken Fried Rice: Inedible, a gummy brick of gross rice, smelled foul.

Deep Fried Jumbo Prawns: 3 inch long snakes of dough underfried in smelly old oil with tiny 1/2 inch pieces of prawn inside.

House Special Chow Mein: Inedible, a stinky mess of beef, chicken, prawns, brocolli and noodles, I couldn't even make myself taste this one.

Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls: Same funky old oil as the prawns.

Ginger Beef: This was edible, really the only dish that didn't taste gross, stringy and chewy yes, but edible.

Isami Sushi4603 Kingsway, #6, Burnaby
Stunned by these reviews
Submitted Wednesday, June 11, 2008 - 12:23am [Dine in]

I am baffled by these other reviews, my wife and I just got back from Isami and not only was the sushi bad it also took 3.5 hours!

The staff appeared to be moving through molasses the entire night, everyone moving in extreme slow motion. Because we could see the sushi "masters" at work it was clear that one of our plates of sushi was being prepared for over an hour.

The thimble sized pieces of maki were mushy, tasteless and the rice was still warm. The nigiri pieces were mangled and of extremely poor quality, covered in bits of silverskin and very unevenly coloured. The tobiko was an orange mush and the salmon roe was very funky.

On the positive the tempura was edible.

Anyone who thinks this is good sushi really needs to broaden their horizons past Burnaby.

EN Japanese Restaurant4422 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver
Stunningly overpriced, very mediocre food
Submitted Monday, January 15, 2007 - 12:20am [Dine in]

My wife and just ate at EN by accident, it used to be the amazing Wabi Sabi which appears to be gone, we didnt realize until we sat down that it was a different restaurant. The ambiance was still there so we decided to give it a try. It turned out to be the most expensive meal we have had where the food was truly bad; dry tuna, fishy fish, stunningly overpriced ($15 for one plate with 6 tiny pieces of tuna maki on it???) Each tiny tapas was around $15, none were great, several were awful. We will never ever be back... where oh where has my Wabi Sabi gone???
