The food is okay for New West but your service is terrible

I know the reviews are raving about his restaurant and the restaurant is great for anything outside of Vancouver but there are better Malaysian restaurant in Vancouver an Richmond. I've eaten here half a dozen times and the food is good and I don't have to travel into Vancouver but when you start giving bad service is when I draw the line.

We were a party of 5 and there was no one waiting. We put our name in and the host said that we just had to wait for a particular table to finish and that would be our table. Meanwhile 2 other parties came in - one with 3 people and the other with 4. Both of these tables got sat before we did. Okay no problem I understand the seating configurations accommodate smaller parties. But then a party comes in and the host obviously knows them and gives them our table. What the heck? I talk to host and he says "oh sorry, the other girl didn't know". The party sees that I'm making a bit of a stink and leaves. Ok if you were a legitimate reservation, would you leave?

So we order. I order a diet coke and lo and behold - unlike 90% of the restaurants in the world, they charge for pop refills. Really? Then we have barely got our 2nd entree out when the waiter stops by and tells us that it is last call. It is barely 9:00pm by this point. I guess you guys have to rush out and go home. Paying patrons don't want to hold you up from your private life. This is only your job and we are only paying your bills.

These guys need to realize that they Vancouver is the Asian food mecca in North American and there are other restaurants that are better. I just have to travel into Vancouver. This is good for New West but travel a little farther and you will get better. Mediocre food is passable when the service but is good when you start pulling stunts like this - I can take my hard earned money elsewhere.

Good food but consistency of service is key

I have now been to this restaurant 4 times and every time the service gets a little worse which is embarassing when you rave about a restaurant and bring friends or clients and the service doesn't live up to the hype.

The first time we were treated like kings and they brought over pickles, corn appetizer and japanese soda pop for free for my son and fruit at the end of the meal.

The second time I brought my daughter and we didn't get any pickles or appetizers but she got the japanese soda pop for free.

The third time we didn't get the pickles or free soda pop - the kids had to ask for them and because a friend picked up the tab, I don't know is we got charged for the soda pop and we didn't get any pickles or appetizers.

I just went today for lunch and no pickles or appetizers, no miso soup with the lunch box, we were informed that the soda pop is now charged but we did get a slice of mandarin orange after our meal.

Business owners need understand that once an expectation has been set and is not met, then disappointment is what causes people to not return. Consistency of return visits is what makes people come back and this has definitely not been a good experience. The food is good but with an abundance of Japanese restaurants in the Tri-city area - this place was starting to set itself apart by adding little extra amenities like the soda pop for the kids, the appetizers etc. I actually would even pay a little more for these amenities to come back because they really set the dining experience and ambiance apart from everyone else. Too bad Sushi Mori because I'm not sure if I'll give you another chance.
