Robson Sushi Japanese Restaurant1542 Robson St, Vancouver
Needs Better Staff and Ambiance
Submitted Sunday, August 14, 2011 - 7:58pm [Dine in]

My friends and I were wandering Robson Street, walking aimlessly until we found this place with our empty stomachs dying for sushi. I would say it was an Ok place. The sushi was excellent here. I loved the Dynamite rolls, they were fresh and greasy. I liked the greasy style, oily part of most of their rolls. Food was pretty moderate here. But I should say, that the servers/waiters were horrible. It seemed like they wanted to kill time to be paid. They never greeted us, but the lady there only escorted us to our table and left carelessly. And when it was our time to order they just come to do what is necessary then leave right away. I didn't see the point since it wasn't busy when we were here at all. The staff here didn't seem human, they were more like machines, they dont make eye contact and try to speak as least as possible. Effortless service.
I say the food is ok and good. But they should hire new waiters/waitresses that actually talk. This place is all about filling your stomachs up but not to lighten your day.

You get what you pay for

My friends and I grew hungry after walking from Lansdowne and we saw this play nearby and decided to try it out during the evening. It was a small restaurant that looked like it was just starting out. I'd say the food was crappy. The Gyozas were still raw when they were served to us. I mean they were cold and slimy. All the other sushi rolls and Nigiris were mostly rice, and what I mean by that is that there is more rice than anything else. I hate to say this but their California rolls were crumpled when it was served to us. A bit of rice was falling apart and most of the pieces were loose. I had to order Nigiri on the menu twice because they forgot it and they should be ashamed because they forgotten to make it even though it wasn't busy at all when my friends and I were there. And when I got my Nigiris, the rice on the bottom was a huge and the fish on top was very thin... Well it was All You Can Eat for $11.99... I guess you could say you get what you pay for. If you were very hungry and did not care at all about the quality of food then I guess you could say its a perfect place for you. But quality is not the case for this restaurant.
Ambiance was great I should say. The lady who served us always seemed pretty concerned and focused on us since we were almost the only ones there. She was kind and she always remembered to fill up our cups with tea. And when I waved at her, she was at our table in split seconds. But pretty ironic that our order was forgotten once since we were the only ones there.
I never left any tip, the sushi was beyond horrible. I mean even I can make a better sushi roll where rice does not fall apart. The server was excellent, but they should get a new chef. Cheap isn't always so good. I wondered why my friends didn't want to go to Sui Sha Ya instead in Lansdowne.
