Salade de Fruits Cafe1551 West 7th Avenue, Vancouver
Homestyle French Cuisine

The most authentic aspect of Salade de Fruits is that it proves French food does not have to be pretentious and ridiculously expensive, and can still be delicious, copious and satisfying. This is the best value French cuisine in Vancouver, and with an ever changing menu and super-fresh ingredients.
I've been there several times now, and it's always amazing from start to finish - great service, team-like effort of bonafide Frenchies, fresh and delicious food and great bang for the buck.

On my first visit I had the mussels, which are a large serving and come in a delicious cream sauce and with an enormous side of homemade fries. The next time I had the halibut, fish of the day, which was exceptionally tender and covered in a creamy butter sauce. Even the vinaigrette on the salad is to die for. The duck pate is more of an appetizer, but is great for sharing and does not taste over processed, and has actual bits of shredded duck throughout.

The service is great, and the servers work in a team to make sure everyone is satisfied and gets what they need. They're fast, friendly and 100% french!

This is a hidden gem that you probably wouldn't notice from walking by, but is a definite must-try. Highly recommended to all ages and tastes!

Bridges1696 Duranleau Street, Vancouver
Mediocre across the board

I've eaten here a few times now and have never left feeling that I would love to go back. When other restaurants on Granville Island are completely booked, Bridges remains pretty empty and it's not hard to see why. Their menu is uninspiring to say the least (burgers, nachos, standard fish-fare) and for the prices they charge they could at least put the menu in laminate and not on a crumpled sheet of paper.
The bar is extremely loud. It's got a great view and is in a good location on the docks but the internal ambience leaves a lot to be desired.
Uninspired menus breed uninspired food, and that's what you get here. I had Mussels in a Thai curry sauce that tasted nothing like Thai curry sauce and was oversalted. Basically none of the prices are a good value, there is a better version of everything they serve from pizza to burgers to seafood elsewhere on the Island.
To top it off our waitress took 20 minutes in between every action from the extra time to get our order together to getting the bill to ringing through the credit card, and was in plain sight chatting the entire time we were there.
Mediocre throughout.
