No Interac?
Submitted Tuesday, January 1, 2008 - 4:52pm [Dine in]

Had dinner here recently and overall, I enjoyed it.
Fish Soup is excellent with the saffron aioli and gruyere cheese on the side with croutons.

Heads up though, this place doesn't take Interac. Kind of annoyng but....yeah, kind of annoying.

Yes, it's small, yes, it's noisy, yes, the food is excellent. Have been twice and will recommend it to anyone.

Although, anyone attempting to recreate these inventive tapas based on the chef's cookbook may be in for a disappointment. The recipes don't even come close to what is served if you were to follow them to the letter.

Sure, a chef's secret recipe is his/her trademark but if you are going to publish something that is representative of the establishment, at least have it somewhere in the ballpark.

'Sexy Food'? That photo of the naked woman covered in chocolate sauce looks more like she ate too much Ex-Lax.

Book aside, the restaurant is good.

Will give it a second chance.

Overall we found this restaurant a nice surprise on a spur of the moment drop in.
The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the service was quick despite it being a Friday dinner rush.

My only criticism was each dish we ordered came smothered in aioli sauces that overpowered the otherwise originality of the tapas. Not to mention leaving us with an overly stuffed heavy feeling afterwards.

Tone down the aioli bath theme and I will highly recommend this restaurant.

I always give a promising venue a second chance, so I will be back.

Ok overall

Have been here 4 times and have had the same experience all 4 times.

The service has always been good. Servers have always been very friendly and attentive.

Food wise has been touch and go. The Lamb Carpaccio was flavourless and very oily.
Chips were undercooked and greasy. Sandwiches are good. Mushroom tart was good.

Forget trying to have a conversation in the glass covered patio at the back as the brick and glass surroundings only amplify large noisy gatherings.

The Heather pours a great Guiness though so I will be back.

I'd been waiting a while to check this place out and the wait was well worth it.

From the moment our party of four walked through the door we were made to feel welcome by virtually every server we passed while being shown to our table.

Our appetizers arrived no less than 10 minutes after ordering them. I had the 'Congolaise' mussel dish and it was superb.

Our server enthusiastically described the various Belgian beers this restaurant specializes in and what beer worked best with each dish.

The entrees were cooked to perfection and expedited quickly despite the restaurant being busy. I recommend the lamb tagine and the venison dishes highly. Portions were perfect in the sense that after an appetizer and an entree we were all very full.

'Full' meaning no room for dessert which none of us had any intention of ordering but due to our waiter overhearing we were there for a birthday celebration (we did not advertise this fact), the kitchen sent over TWO complimentary dessert platters.

So for all the negative reviews I've read on this board about Chambar, I don't know what these people expect when dining out because this was definitely an experience worth ranting about. And I don't rant easily.

5 stars in every category and well deserved at that.

Have been there a few times within the last year and have never been disappointed.

You know it's a sign of quality when kalamari is offered WITHOUT the batter as a menu item (Grilled Kalamari that is - great appy).
Service has always been friendly and attentive with all servers having excellent knowledge of each menu item and enthusiastically describing them at that.

My favorite entree has been The Athenian which is a selection of various entrees consisting of dolmades, moussaka, lamb souvlaki and of course those famous greek roasted potatoes and rice pilaf. Highly recommended. Also available are good range of vegetarian entrees.

Nice 'tavern' feel as far as ambience goes. Go check this place out.
