Koto Izakaya Sushi & Robata8171 Alexandra Road, #101, Richmond
Great Undiscovered Richmond Sushi
Submitted Thursday, July 8, 2010 - 10:19pm [Dine in]

The only reason i tried this place was because of a recommendation from my boss. I thought yeah yeah ok, whatever, its another sushi place in Richmond... and it is- but its really good!

Food: the food and the quality is totally excellent. I love and recommend the old fashioned dynamite roll- its drizzled with mayo and eel sauce- its amazing. And the fire cracker balls (haha- i know) so good!

Service: im pretty sure this is a family owned business and they are absolutely lovely. they arent pushy but they will answer your questions politely.

Value: the prices are fair considering the amount and quality of food they serve.

Ambiance: its your typical sushi place- small 2 person tables, hello kitty covered walls, japanese pictures and dolls everywhere and bad, bad music lol. the restaurant itself is quite small but thats ok- i kind of like it.

If you havent been here before I highly recommend it. I love, LOVE sushi and this is my new favourite place to go in Richmond.

Keg Steakhouse & Bar, The11151 No. 5 Road, Richmond
Bad Service.... BAD..... But great food.
Submitted Thursday, July 8, 2010 - 10:07pm [Dine in]

I love The Keg. Who doesnt? Growing up its where my family and I would go out for dinner together. Id get a Shirley Temple and big steak and it was great. And then I grew up and went to The Keg in Richmond...

Food: the food at the Keg is pretty consistent which is one of the reasons I liked to return to this restaurant. Good food, good selection and good prices

Service: my first experience at this location consisted of our server providing us with slow service and no menu knowledge. Finally he piped up and apologized for his attitude saying "sorry im just really f****** hung over today" I mean i know im young and yeah I get it, but yes he actually said that.
My second experience was on a Saturday night and it was pretty busy. There wasnt an empty seat in our section. But I saw our server, I saw he was busy, he saw us... didnt come over right away... didnt come over after serving all his other tables, but decided it would be best to ignore us for almost 15 minutes before coming over. Awesome. He got a big tip!
The last time I went there I ordered a glass of wine and 10 mins later after i didnt receive it I reminded him of the wine and he said "oh yeah, we're out of that wine" .... ok then ill have a diet coke.... 10 mins later .... "oh yeah diet coke"..... 10 mins later- still no diet coke.

I dont understand how one location of a huge steakhouse like The Keg can be staffed with such awful people.

Value and Ambiance: Ive always thought the Keg to have good value for what they offer. I think with most of their dishes you get what you pay for. Ambiance at this location is very outdated. I dont think they have renovated since the 1990's.

I really like The Keg. Just get some better servers.... PLEASE!

Chop10251 St Edwards Dr, Richmond
Best Restaurant EVER
Submitted Wednesday, February 24, 2010 - 6:01pm [Dine in]

Food: I have been to Chop several times and I have never been disappointed with the quality of food. The Gorgonzola dip- amazing, Caesar Salad- the best Ive ever had, Chocolate Souffle Cake- incredible. I have never had something there I didnt like. I also like that they make a lot of their products in house- pretty cool. Must be why everything tastes so good.

Service: The staff there is really amazing. My first time there I asked someone where the washrooms were and instead of telling me they took me there. Even when something goes wrong I had the manager come to my table to make sure everything was ok and that I left happy. Its nice to go somewhere where the wait staff actually cares about the people in their restaurant. They must have gone through great training.

Value: Chop seems like a fancy, expensive restaurant when you walk in but their prices are more than fair. They are the same as any of their competitors and in some categories better! I was actually surprised that it wasnt more expensive. I like that I can go there on a budget or I can go there to splurge and still find things I can afford.

Ambiance: There really is 2 ambiances at Chop- first they have their dining room which is dim lit, romantic but upbeat at the same time. Great place for a first date, an anniversary or birthday. And they have private dining rooms which are great for celebrating a special occasion.
Then there is the lounge or bar- almost club feel past a certain hour, which can be great for after work drinks or a girls night out. Same menu too.

Overall, if you havent been to Chop you should go. I dont know why a lot of people on here dont like it- maybe they just got off on the wrong foot :)
This city needs more great places like this to go!

Fogg 'N' Suds10720 Cambie Rd, Richmond
What Happened To This Place?
Submitted Tuesday, March 3, 2009 - 4:24pm [Dine in]

Friends and I used to frequent the Fog for quite a while but havent been there in a long time and this place has changed. The quality of food isnt the same as I remember and the service wasnt what I remember either. We sat at our table for quite a while before we were greeted and observed our server and the other staff just standing around talking the entire time we were there.
Our food came out on the cold side- the wings we had looked like they had been sitting under the heat lamp for quite some time.
From what I remember before the service and food was just better. Unfortunately I dont think i will be going back here.

friendly staff- great sushi- why arent they open at lunch?
Submitted Thursday, January 22, 2009 - 6:48pm [Dine in]

one of the better places in richmond for all you can eat sushi. i just dont know why they arent open at lunch on the weekdays?? fortunately they are open later in the evenings- past midnight for sure.

the sushi is excellent and all of the staff are very polite and friendly- even the manager helps seat guests and run food to the tables.
and they have all you can eat with sashimi- not all restaurants do that.

i love going here for sushi.
