I dined here with my husband late one Saturday night after a movie. We were very hungry and there were not too many choices around at 12:30 AM.

We were sat at a table by a very indifferent woman whose interest was not in her work. We ordered Calamari right away but it took about 15 minutes for it to come to our table and it wasn't that busy. We thought it was below average and flavorless. I ordered the roast lamb and my husband asked for the lamb Souvlaki. Both were dry and bland and not very nicely presented...and overpriced! There are better places around within meters of this place that offer much better food for cheaper prices. We were hungry so we ate it and did not complain but it was unsatisfactory. Not much enthusiasm from our server either and I don't think much would have been done if we had brought it to her attention.

Oh well. Best way to tell a restaurant you don't like it is to stop going there.

I Never leave disappointed from this place

I just adore the setting of this quaint little restaurant in the middle of Davie street. I have come here many times and it never gets boring and it never disappoints.

A few Mondays ago I went with a girlfriend to take advantage of the buck-a-shuck oysters. We had a half dozen and they were great. We then followed with a tomato salad to share. There was just enough goat cheese. I enjoyed the free range chicken and my girlfriend had the lemon cream mussels and fries. Both were excellent though I preferred my chicken as it was juicy and flavorful. We were each recommended a glass of wine to accompany our dinner and the server's choice was excellent. No desert as we were both quite full.

The service was knowledgeable and friendly yet professional and attentive. We never felt like we were being rushed out to accommodate a new table even though they were quite busy with people waiting outside. I was told to come before 6 or after 9 to avoid the rush as they don't take reservations.

The ambiance is perfectly set especially with the large mirrors that expand the room. The music is contemporary, European and upbeat without being intrusive or loud. Nice place!

Good ol' Reliable

I've enjoyed coming here for years with friends or with the hubby, or with friends and the hubby. It has an excellent vibe at night and it's usually very clean. if you go for the AYCE after 9 everyone at the table must order it. It really is a bargain at $15 a person.

They have almost every mainstream Japanese food imaginable from Terriyaki to Sushi to tempura and the food is always solid. My favorite is sitting at the bar and watching them making and plating the food. Enjoy with a pitcher of beer or even a Mai Tai. Leave very full and satisfied.

Don't miss this place. The deal is even better at lunch.

Made Mom's Birthday Very Enjoyable
Submitted Friday, July 9, 2010 - 2:47am [Dine in]

I was here with my husband and family a few weeks back for mom's birthday and it was a pleasant experience. I will certainly repeat.

All of us ordered the 2 piece halibut and chips and a couple of Caesar salads to share. We asked for light batter and it was delicious. Each piece was large and we got a generous portion of fries. It was an excellent value at $18. The salads were a bit on the overdressed side but still yummy. Sadly, we were too full for desert. Even mom had to pass.

They have a large selection of other seafoods including halibut, cod, crab, salmon as well as chops and surf and turf for pretty reasonable prices. Their selection of BC wines by the glass was very good and they have more than enough beers on tap.

The server was friendly and efficient, always there when you needed him and not overbearing at all.

The ambiance is pleasant with nice views of the wharf and water through the large windows and the background music is pleasant and suitable for the restaurant.

Thank you Sockeye City Grill for a great evening!
