Our usual dinner gang plus a couple of special guests were looking for a place to eat when we spotted a recent review for this place on the DH site. We decided to give Richman a try. The restaurant itself is in a scary part of New West, and it looked quite crappy and not too clean, but the prices were low and the menu had lots of choices.

Service was good throughout the meal with lots of quality checks and teapot refills. We ordered a variety of dishes including deep fried wontons, Mongolian beef, Singaporean vermicelli, sweet and sour pork, salt and pepper squid, egg foo yong, and lots of steamed rice. Surprisingly, the food was quite good, and we lapped it up with enthusiasm. I guess the moral of this review is that sometimes a richman can look like a poorman. Or a poorman can eat like a richman. Something like that.

A good place for a cheap meal as long as you aren’t particular about the ambiance.

Being tired of Hon's,A friend and I decided on trying the Richman for takeout.
Let me start by saying it's nice to see a place that actually fills the takeout containers so much, that they must be held closed by an elastic band.
We ordered the dinner for three, which lets you pick any 3 items on the menu, and comes with egg rolls and chow mein or rice.
It was by far the best deal I have had in a long time. 40 bucks with tip,and enough food for the next day.
the chow mein was cooked well, the almond chicken was great, the squid was perfect, and the dry ribs were awesome.
A definite place to order from again.
Delivery was quick and free.

My husband and I have ordered from Richman Restaurant for take-out quite often since it opened. We have both been very happy with our orders and have recommended Richman to a number of our friends. The have the absolute BEST Sweet & Sour Boneless Pork. Most places give you fatty pieces of meat greatly outnumbered by the vegetables and swimming in enough sauce to bathe in. Richman's S&S Pork is crispy with just enough sauce to coat everything evenly. The veggies are cooked perfectly and there's enough so you can say you've had your veggies for the day. :) The House Special Chow Mein with crispy noodles is a must! My husband has commented that the decor is a little lacking, but not a complete turn-off. The service we have received over the phone has been wonderful. I can only imagine the in-house service would be just as great. If you have not yet tried the food at Richman Restaurant you are missing out!

Very decent inauthentic Chinese food...hits that 'feel like lemon chicken' craving...

Ordered deep fried prawns, (huge and overbattered but very tasty sweet/sour sauce...not too glutinous), crispy chow mein (charge me extra for 'crispy'? "we use different sauce for that..." OK) and something else. Can't remember. It wasn't a memorable meal, but the portions are HUGE...I mean LARGE. Overflowing! The taste is very decent, definitely edible. I really wish Chinese restaurants would clean their shrimp before using them in dishes...it's just gross to see the poop line on the shrimp when you're chowing down. Yuck. You can even buy the shrimp deveined! But for the overall value and taste and takeout Chinese craving kicker, Richman Restaurant does deliver! I would try them again...maybe a couple more times. Until I find something better!

Me and my husband are fairly new to New West and tried this place after reading some of the reviews here on DH. We were a little concerned when we walked in and the place was empty and the decor was less then sub par. Our food was ready in 15 minutes and the staff were friendly enough. When we got home and dished out the food, what a wonderful surprise! The chow mein was very flavorful, the almond chicken was crunchy, the sweet and sour pork was delicious and the stir fried veggies had a wonderful sauce. The portions were huge! What a good find and we will be going back!
