Mississauga Restaurant Reviews
El Fishawy5055 Plantation Place, Unit 4, Mississauga
Awful, humiliating experience
By reviewera. of Mississauga, Ontario (1 Review)
Submitted Saturday, August 3, 2013 - 11:23am [Dine in]

A few friends and I, looking for a hookah bar in central Mississauga, opted to visit El Fishawy. Boy, was this ever a mistake. I wish I'd read reviews on this place prior to showing up there last night. We waited at the door to be seated, as is the norm, for about 15-20 minutes. We were ignored. No staff came up to us to tell us about wait times. That's okay, right? Well, it would have been had that been the extent of the rude behaviour. Caucasian customers and those of Arab descent would show up behind us and be immediately allowed in and seated. What is this, the 1960s in Alabama? How can an establishment in Canada, in 2013, continue to remain open when they discriminate based on ethnicity on a regular basis?

(FYI: My experience wasn't an isolated incident. Please refer to reviews on other sites such as UrbanSpoon to read more on racist experiences at this hookah bar.)

We were denied service on the basis of our skin colour. It's as simple as that. When we politely approached the staff to ask when and if we could be seated, the server, without even bothering to make eye contact, told us to step behind the door and rudely asked, 'can't you see there's no space?' Appalled at the way we had just been spoken to (this has never happened to me before. I'm South Asian and never in my entire life have I been treat like this, by anyone), we decided to leave. This place certainly did not deserve our business.

Make no mistake, if you are a person of colour, please decide against going to this establishment. Their attitudes seem to be stuck in the Middle East where the sub-par treatment of ethnic minorities is the norm. It is NOT okay to engage in blatant discrimination in Canada. Perhaps they didn't get this memo.
Terrible experience. Save yourself the trouble.

Good food and great service, cancelled out by bad management
By Walterss of Toronto (1 Review)
Submitted Saturday, July 27, 2013 - 11:58pm [Dine in]

Just to preface that I specifically created an account just to voice my
displeasure with the management. I don't like to give good/bad reviews as
people should judge for themselves, however I think I will start from now on.

We had a coupon from the Entertainment book and chose this restaurant over a
few others in an effort to try a new place which will become a regular. We
walk in and the place had 4-6 people in the bar, around the same on the patio
and in the main dining room there was not a diner in sight. This should have
set off alarm bells however we have been to places near empty at first and get
busy later, and regardless we judge on the food & service anyways. (We
regularly come to Catz fish and chips next door however it is a different name

If you are not familiar, the Entertainment book is where the restaurant
themselves have a coupon for 'xx' dollars off a purchase of any 2 lunch or
dinner (almost 2 for 1 depending on what you order). This usually excludes
apps and specials. In the case of this place, it was up to $25 with purchase
of another dinner. We find this is an excellent way to try or 'test' new
places while seeing how they handle their own coupon, etc and hopefully find
new hangouts.

We usually order drinks (non-alcoholic) 2 dinners and some apps and maybe a
dessert if there is room, so it is not as if we just go in ordering water and
just dinner and run. Waitress confirmed it was anything on the menu
excluding the apps which is understandable.

Service by waitress was quick and we were eating in no-time. We had 2 orders
of ordered 16 wings, an onion ring basket. mozza sticks and some pop.
Onion rings were good, mozza was not worth it, however the wings were
surprisingly large and meaty with good sauce coverage. We regularly visit
Buffalo Wings and we actually found this a bit better. So we thought we may
have found a good new regular place for wings.

The dining room remained empty throughout our dinner although a few people
came into the bar area. Maybe this place gets busy later, however for a prime
time Saturday night, this was puzzling and it should have been a warning. It
felt like we had rented the whole dining area for the night, which was not
half bad, being peaceful and quiet dinner.

So come time to pay, the waitress informs us that her manager notes that this
coupon is not valid on wings and is intended to be for other items such as
souvlaki, etc.

This is the Discount Description:

Enjoy one complimentary LUNCH OR DINNER ENTREE when a second LUNCH OR DINNER

ENTREE of equal or greater value is purchased - maximum discount $25.00

valid anytime

We asked our waitress if she could check again to see if they could do
anything and she returned and mentioned that their manager was nice enough to
take both apps off the bill.

We have used Entertainment coupons everywhere for MANY years and this is the
first place where we have encountered resistance to THEIR OWN COUPON.

Being a long day we just accepted and mumbled, grumbled and left, vowing to
never ever come back due to the way we were treated even though the food was
not bad.

A Saturday night... near empty.... poor waitress and collecting tips for the
night.... 2 potential new repeat customers trying a new place and getting
resistance in using their own coupon by the rules.

I realize we have a 'coupon' and we do not drink alcohol, however if you do
not want to honour YOUR OWN COUPON properly, than maybe DO NOT OFFER A COUPON.
(Also, do not think we are cheap, as we dropped hundreds on a meal a few
weeks ago at a high end sushi joint ('Ja Bistro' downtown) and service/food
was impeccable.). If you do not appreciate new customers and my new money,
than I will thankfully after this visit, never give you another cent ever.

To top it off as we were driving away, we spotted a family of 4 peaking
through the window and stopped and went next door to Tim Hortons, which is
what we should have done in hindsight.

Nirvana Catered my Wedding - Bad Decision!
By igrewal of Toronto ON, Canada (1 Review)
Submitted Friday, July 19, 2013 - 12:53pm [Catering]

Nirvana the Flavors of India catered my wedding reception (a Punjabi wedding for 550 people) at the end of June 2013. Unfortunately, they were the only vendor hired during my 1 week long wedding who caused problems for us and did not do what was expected. They did not bring enough food to feed our guests, did not serve finger foods as we agreed upon, forgot a couple of a dishes in our contract (which they emailed us) and did not serve dinner and appetizers at the times and duration we discussed with them. They also did not check when trays were empty, leaving both rice and naan empty for long time (even though family members continued to remind them that they were empty). My mother and uncle had to continue to remind the chefs when we wanted dinner served and when dishes were empty and how to speed up their cooking time to keep up (ie. pouring 1 gulab jaman at a time in a large dish is not fast enough - not to worrk my mother showed them how to pick up the pace!). The worst part for me was that my parents spent so much money on this wedding and Nirvana caused my mom especially to be stressed out during the weddind reception and missed a lot of it because she had to deal with the Nirvana staff (which was also short staffed) and tell them how to fix the problems they created. She was also running up and downstairs but the staff complained that they didnt want to have to keep going up and downstairs (to check food and refill trays) so my mom was forced to do it for them since she wanted to ensure there was atleast something for some guests to start eating.

Upon a meeting with the owner and key staff after the event, the owner (who is not often involved in the managing of the restaurant) did apologize and take responsibility. However, the manager (Karan) and chefs who were responsible for our event did not apologize and were quite rude and did attempt to deflect blame. Nor did we ever get a good explanation from anyone of why they did not meet to plan and organize the food for our event as they claim they do for others - especially since the manager (who is in charge and says he works 7 days a week) kept his eyes down and did not speak much during the meeting.

Not sure why there was a lack of service and professionalism but my family has thrown many parties in the past and were very embarrassed that at my own reception some of our guests did not have food to eat. I hope this helps and is a word of caution before having Nirvana The Flavors of India cater an event for you.

Narula’s is one of the finest Indian restaurants in Mississauga. Providing all types of Native indian food items as well as Indian native Dishes along with delivery services within Mississauga. Our superior quality in addition to fantastic services makes them stay apart from the rest.

I am and Indian from Punjabi. We Punjabi's are a big time foodie. We love food more than anything else. Got all the vegetarian and non vegan dishes. Also includes my personal favourite kebabs, tandoori , spicy juicy chickens blended with the aroma of beautiful Indian spices it all you want.

This was my first visit to Canada and since my visit to the beautiful city of Mississauga I began to miss my favourite Indian Cuisines (hard to get anywhere else) thats what I thought but after coming to this place I think I was wrong.

Guys!! If you love Indian food .This is certainly the place to be in Mississauga, Canada .

Happy Eating!!

the most horrible experience!
By Zulfiqar of Missisauga (1 Review)
Submitted Saturday, July 6, 2013 - 7:03pm [Delivery]

We ordered a burger, fish and chips and medium sized pizza from this place. Here are our comments: 1. We paid for extra cheese on the pizza. This was missing! In fact it had less cheese than a normal pizza. 2. The Pizza was bland, lacked flavour and was cold and limp when it arrived. 3. The burger was horrible in taste 4. They do not have the foggiest idea of what is meant by Fish and Chips, which is supposed to be British with the batter and homestyle wedges. This one was some pakistani style spicy burnt looking stuff with fries which were stuck to each other, clearly fried when they were defrosted! 5. They bill themselves as a European/Italian restaurant, which is a complete lie. Discovered after talking to them over the phone that they are Pakistani and make Paki style food. 6. For just these 3 measly portioned and rotten food, we paid over 41 dollars! 7. When we called them back to complain (3 times) they kept making excuses that the manager was not in, they will call back and then send us a refund etc, which they never did. 8. You've got to be out of your mind to eat at this dump. I strongly supect all the 'positive' reviews are from their own stooges! You have been warned.

Lazy Careless Cook, No Quality Control
By Ramydamdam of Port Credit Mississauga (1 Review)
Submitted Saturday, May 18, 2013 - 9:27am [Dine in]

AWFUL PLACE TO EAT. The really tall man that is the cook is incredibly LAZY. He wouldn't know what "QUALITY CONTROL" was if it jumped up and bit him on the face. WATCH HIM PREPARE THE FOOD and you will see. The toast is ALWAYS under toasted (white). He is so LAZY he only cuts the toast 1/2 way and plops the butter on. My bacon was RAW, he wanted to deep fry it again (that's healthy), I said NO and got my money back. This cook takes NO PRIDE in his cooking, NONE what so ever. He doesn't care. I watched him take a basket of fries from the fryer and plunk them in a box without shaking off the excess grease, the fries were loaded with grease. He is so LAZY. I got fish and chips there once and the oil in the fryer wasn't hot enough so when my order was ready the batter on the fish was still white and saturated with grease, as were the fries. He could care less. HE IS SO LAZY! He doesn't care. He uses his "hands" to maul your food before you get it when he should be using tongs and plastic gloves when touching food. Health code violations here in preparing the food no doubt.

Caution to the new Chinese owners: This man is going to destroy your business. Word of mouth is the most POWERFUL form of advertising and Friendly's (Friends) Fish and Chips is at the bottom of the barrel of places to eat in Port Credit. You see mostly a lower-end clientele ( homeless looking types) eating at this business. The ketchup tastes funny and the squeeze bottles are often sticky and/or greasy, as is the salt and pepper shakers. It's a SLOP HOUSE with substandard food, in my opinion. If you are a custom to well prepared good food where the cook takes PRIDE and QUALITY CONTROL in what he serves the public then this place is NOT FOR YOU.

From past experience, I have seen the owner of the restaurant pick up my fiance cousin's baby and carry it around, away from the parent while holding onto a hot teapot. She should be thankful that the baby was safe otherwise she will be sue. Also today my family came to this restaurant to celebrate Mother's Day, we've make a reservation and still waited for more than half hour. That was fine, they told us to sit at a table while they were cleaning it from previous customers. So my family of 15 including me, sat there waiting for them to clean and set up the table, all of a sudden the owner came over and ask us to switch table. Making everyone including my grandma who has trouble walking (because she had stroke from before), walked to the other end of the restaurant near the door which it was cold with her walking cane!! I made a complain to the owner and she just said that's because you have 15 people, blah blah blah (but the 1st table we sat on fit just fine) asking us to move to a smaller table without apologizing. WHAT KIND OF SERVICE IS THIS!! I don't mind me walking to the other end of the restaurant but asking a elderly to walk to the other end of the restaurant squished into a smaller table and without apologizing! I WILL NEVER COME HERE EVER AGAIN! And to all moms out there, be careful of ur babies in this restaurant!!!

Quarter of the Sandwich didn't even have meat in it. I speculate that it was fat pork meat that was used.

The Drink, was certainly nothing like "Pepsi"....I'm not so sure, it could even pass the test as a Cola.

This is very poor fair, in Square One's Food Court.

I remember when it was a pleasure to eat Charley's....but not anymore.

I'm afraid, it rates as Dog food.

My friends and I used to order the largest possible Pizzas, then see who could devour their's first. Not only was this a fun game, with some exceptionally memorable moments, it also caused us all to develop an affinity for Ginos Pizza. The pizzas they firm produce are very tasty, come in a range of slices, and are affordable without being the best value in the area. which makes everything just that little bit easier, and you'll find that delivery of items is fast and efficient.

One of my favorite places to order pizza when i am in Mississauga!

I guess it would be very good if more items are added in the Dessert menu.

They are really rude on the phone, they rush you and if you're not ready, they tell you to call back once you'e looked at their website and figured out what you want. The food is quite terrible. They have deals but their prices aren't worth it as the food isn't really any good. Stick with the chain pizza stores, it may be a little more expensive but at least you'll enjoy your meal.

She shortchanged us what we wanted to order after waiting in the car line for like 25 minutes....Very disappointed in the food, never any napkins served with it, service is deplorable and the value mediocre......Get this person off ordering or else you will have difficulty having satisfied customers.... Cannot be bothered to come back with my husband in the near future!!!!!!! In the past, they have got our orders wrong when they put food items in their non see thru bags or sometimes for the sandwiches they do not give out bags....

Very disatisfied customers and very upset with your Tim Hortons service.....

This is by far the best Shawarma place in Mississauga. We drive from T.O to eat at this place. The prices 4.95 for a fat meaty Shawarma. The chicken they use seems much better then other places. All the food I've eaten at this place has been over the top. I've gone to a popular Shawarma place on Confederation and Dundas in Mississauga, and both times gave me the runs. I had to go a second time just to make sure it was their food. I highly recommend drive out to Streetsville and check this place out.

I love the staff and the clientele that regular this hidden Jewel. My favourite at this restaurant are the schnitzels which is served in a generous portion with a bouquet of salads. Its great to know they serve great European and Polish food in Mississauga.
