De Dutch Pannekoek House's (The Dutch Pancake House) is a great place. The food is tasty, well portioned (really big) and the service is young and kind. The real star was the staff. Our waitress was a crackup and really made you feel at home. This place is a go to if you are in the area. Never had bad service or a bad meal there. The cornbread, the breakfast pancakes all is very well made and delicious. Definitely a "family" place though. Many families eating

I realized I didn't write a review of my New Year's Day visit to this restaurant. We always go out to IHOP for New Year's Day but decided to come to De Dutch for a change. I've eaten at other restaurants and the food's OK and I think they're overpriced for what you get but we'd never tried this De Dutch.

Located in a strip mall there is lots of parking. Husband had to make a phone call so I went inside to get a table. No one in line ahead of me and there were several empty tables. 3 wait staff rushing around. Not a single one would catch my eye but they were aware I was there because most of them walked within 5 feet of me and turned their head so they wouldn't have to acknowledge me. Not one of them could even say "someone will be with you in a moment". How rude is that? Clearly there is no host/hostess in this restaurant or maybe they were on a break and had no coverage.

After 5 minutes my husband came inside and was amazed I was still standing there. He said "you haven't been seated yet". I said "No, they're ignoring me." He said, "They're ignoring you? Let's go."

And then we went to IHOP on the Fraser Highway. They were busy but as soon as we walked in the door the cashier was bobbing her head around to catch my eye and seated us right away.

The staff at the Langley location of De Dutch should spend some time at IHOP and learn from them on how to greet customers.

I complained to the head office and got the typical sorry with a feeble attempt to justify their staff's rudeness.

I've never been ignored at any other De Dutch location but no way will I go back to the Langley location. Stick with restaurants who value their customers and want their business.
