Even better with groupon certificate

Nice surprise. Used a groupon coupon and was very well received. Service was great. Only problem was lukewarm coffee which was replaced immediately. Spinach dip was excellent as was the basic burger and beef dip. Burger was huge with a bun that stayed together when held by hand. Very generous amount of meat in the beef dip which came with a toasted bun. The garlic fries were terrific. Restroom was clean and very upscale. Kudos all around. I still have 2 groupons so I will be back again and again.

Went here twice with the Groupon certificate in the last few months. Wasn't expecting much due to the reviews on dinehere, but was pleasantly surprised! Server was extremely attentive - not pushy and very friendly.
Washrooms are impeccably clean, and chairs comfy. Ample TV's everywhere broadcasting Canucks games - probably one of the rare places in the lower mainland that doesn't have line-ups out the door during game time. The food was better than average pub food - I had the salmon and crab cakes with jasmine rice and sauteed vegetables dribbled with cilantro and cucumber salad, which was filling and tasted great. Partner had grilled chicken burger with a large heaping of seafood chowder - he was pretty happy with it. Without Groupon, meal came to 26 including tax. Extremely reasonable, if you ask me. With the Groupon, we paid only $11 - what a steal!

Overall, the food is decent for pub-type restaurants, and service was positive. Only caveat: Ambience was lacking due to lack of customers seated at tables (they deliver food to the bowling alley in the complex) so it can be a bit awkward. Usually, a half empty restaurant = bad food but this is not the case with Big River. Will go back again.

Nothing Inspiring about this Restaurant...
By foodlover2010 of Port Moody BC (1 Review)

# 1 - Food: Not horrible, not amazing. There was nothing about our meals that really stands out, in terms of taste or quality. I had the Chicken burger, it was plain and mostly tasteless.

#2 - Service: The servers were very nice, they did their jobs well, the manager it seems, not so much. When the server needed our food discounted(we had received a free appy card at their grand opening) the manager was nowhere to be found... took awhile before the manager got it together and discounted the appetizer.

#3 - Value: You pay for what you get. Not much. And they don't offer refills on their $2+ pop.

#4 - Ambiance: Sadly, this restaurant doesn't have any. There is nothing overly inviting about this place. It was cold, the tables were very close together and when we first walked in we inquired about having a booth only to realize that there were none. The music was a strange mix of oldies and classics and pop music. The tv's had sports, although it is not a sports bar. It's seemingly a family restaurant.(Don't go here to get away from noisy children, although the restaurant seems to be quiet most of the time) The worst part about the ambiance was the windows, the whole of the outer facing walls were just windows. Floor to ceiling, anybody could just walk by and stare at you while you eat, not a very cozy feeling at all.

Overall, nothing special... it's just a restaurant attached to a bowling alley. We didn't feel any part of this experience was worth going back for.

Fabulous Dinner and Movie Night
By Emma Rose of Coquitlam (3 Reviews)
Submitted Thursday, May 26, 2011 - 11:10pm [Dine in]

Big River Restaurant features a wonderful Thursday night special that consists of dinner from select items AND a movie pass to the SilverCity across the street for only $18.00.

My friend and I decided to try out this offer and were extremely pleased. The service was exceptional. The waiter was attentive, always available, and very welcoming. The regular menu has lots of choices but even the select items available for the offer were plentiful featuring a variety of burgers and sandwiches. I order the beef dip which was not only very good but also a very generous serving.

The ambiance was okay- nothing offensive; nothing special.
I was told by the woman taking reservations (they recommend you make reservations before 3:00 on Thursday to partake of the special) that it is designed for the customer who wants to eat dinner out but still make the movie on time.

We literally crossed the street and went to a movie with the pass they presented us. Outstanding value. One stop parking for a tasty meal followed by a movie.
I'll definitely be returning.
