Very nice neighbourhood pub tucked into a tiny mall in North Burnaby. Went to the Hop & Vine on a chilly, foggy Sunday afternoon. NFL football had a very vocal group up front, quieter areas were in behind.

After 2:00 in the afternoon, the place was packed. An all-day breakfast/brunch seemed to draw in quite a crowd. We found a table, were greeted in a friendly fashion, and had our drink orders taken promptly.

It was difficult to decide... the menu seems a cut above most pub-style menues. The Other Half ordered a new item on the list, Deep Sea Salad served with garlic toast. I ordered The Works burger, with everything on it including a fried egg. Asked for onion rings as a side. The salad was vast and tasty, the garlic toast mildly-garlicked. The burger was amazing. A huge (not pre-formed) beef patty, fried onions and mushrooms, cheese, bacon, tomatoes, lettuce and the fried egg. Once I figured out how to put it all together, it was wonderful. The onion rings were prebreaded and frozen, but fried up nicely to be non-greasy and very good.

A nice room, not too fancy or "olde-Irish". The fireplace looked nice on a cold day. The washrooms were clean and tidy. Only two servers on duty for the whole pub, but they did a great job.

I wish this place was a bit closer to home. Very comfortable, good food, nice people.

If you didn't know about this pub, you would never have expected to find it here. It's located in a tiny stripmall by the Burnaby Golf Course next to IGA. I've shopped at this IGA many times and until only recently didn't even know it existed!

I went here for lunch with my boyfriend last week. We entered and was very surprised at the size of the pub. The little stripmall doesn't even look big enough to house it. We sat down at a bar table and acknowledged that this was a sports fan's paradise. At least 10 televisions broadcasting at least 6 different games from Hockey to Football. They were also advertising UFC nights.

I ordered "The Works" burger w/ salad and the boyfriend had a club sandwich w/ fries. My burger platter came packing. Huge burger with everything from the usuals to sauteed mushrooms and even a fried egg! The "side" salad was piled high on half the plate, topped with a nice touch of chopped tomatoes and cucumber. A great deal at $10 for the gourmet burger.

The service was a little iffy. Our main server was constantly on the go, being the only server around. We had to flag her down many times as a result of her being too busy for quality checks. However, the manager/owner (?) lady that helped out was super nice.

Overall, a very good pub. Be sure to check out the specials at the entrance. I believe they offer mini burgers at only $1.50 daily!

Consistent pub food

As this pub is close to home, we have come for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is consistent, the service reliable and the ambience is a comfortable and casual pub experience. There is a small patio for those who like to sit outside. We have had most things on the menu and have been pleased with the quality of the food. Certainly, there are personal taste issues that we all have. Some of our favourite choices - breakfast: eggs benedict (really nice hollandaise sauce.) Comes with the best chunked potatoes/hashbrowns. Lunch: Try the Pulled Pork sandwich or the California BLT. Cripy bacon, fresh tomato with lettuce, cheese and avocado! Get the yam fries and chipotle dip as a splurge (additional charge) instead of the regular fries. Dinner: pizzas are really good, as is the Works Burger. Daily specials also have been good. Clean bathrooms, cold beer and plenty of parking. Air conditoning in the summer and a nice fireplace in the winter.

Good Deal

Me and my friends frequent the place often, because it is within walking distance from most of our homes. We go to the Hop because it's close to home, but it isn't a bad place to hang out. The food is unspectacular and cheap. The quality is just typical of bar food. The place has a couple of decent sized HD TVs as well as a few tube TVs to watch the game on. The place also has a pool table which was once free to play on. The price of beer is average, but its cheaper to buy them next door at its liquor store. The service is what it is. It's been decent the many times I have been there. The one thing I like is you don't wait very long for your food after ordering. Also, nobody cares if you get rowdy there. We haven't got kicked out yet.
