Owners Barbara and Jarostaw uses no preservatives, no additives and unbleached flour in their European bread and pastries.
BJ bakery (not the best name!), is a tiny little bakery in a 4-shop strip mall on Royal Oak and Rumble - very easy to miss.
I really like the baked goods here. Especially the European cheesecake and the apple cake (which is more like a combination of a cake and a pie). All their desserts are $2.75 for a good-sized piece and they all look fresh and delicious.
Their sandwiches are about $6 and they're satisfyingly large! They also bake their own breads and make their owns preserves/jams!
I'd recommend going to this place instead of Subway across the street. Only downside? They close at 5pm daily, I think.
I used to live in this area about 8 years ago and I still go by this bakery today when I'm in the area. I absolutely love their raspberry cream cheese croissants! They are so fresh and not too sweet. You don't get that artifical tasting cream cheese taste but rather a delicious home made dessert. I dream about them. I've also had the Cornish Pasty, Perogies and Sandwiches which are also always fresh and decently priced. The perogies taste nothing like the Cheemos you find in a grocery store. These perogies are the real deal and all made fresh. The service is always friendly and courteous. The same girl and owners have never changed since I have been going so the baked goods and foods is always consistent.
I don't normally give reviews, but this place just hits the spot for me.
Although I don't live close by but if I have a chance to drive close by, I make a point of stopping there. I tried cheese cake both N.Y. style and European, I love them both. I also tried apple cake, apricot cake (my favorite) and pecan one. They are all so yummy. I also buy Spicy Chicken Roll. In a way, I am glad they are not close by.... because I will be worried about my weight because I love there cakes. I also like there chocolate cake. I have not yet tried their soup and other deli stuff. So I cannot say anything about it, but I highly recommend any of these cakes that I mentioned.
I happened to be in the neighbourhood of this small bakery the day after reading the previous review, so I dropped in to try it out. I only bought a piece of the apple cake, but it was very, very good. A good amount of cinnamon and apple and just the right sweetness. It was quite light - not oily at all like at some bakeries.
I'd definitely recommend this place based on my sample tasting. Very friendly service too.
This little bakery is an awesome place to get great food. There food tastes fantastic, not too salty, not too sweet, just right. Service was great, I ordered coffee and received a coffee that was tasty, made from organic beans and I even had a design drawn on the top of my coffee. There are a few seats available that its the perfect place to go for lunch with friends, or just pick up a dinner item. You pay for the quality and let me tell you, you wont find a better tasting, more bang for your buck bakery and deli than this one! Wont hesitate to go back and spend more!
